Purchasing a 2017 Tacoma Limited (High Kms?)

I've been in the market for a Tacoma for a little while and my old truck just bit the dust. I've been looking at buying new, however I've come across a used 2017 Tacoma Limited which meets my criteria with the only caveat being the 130,xxx Kms (81, xxx miles). The price is in the $30,000 CAD ($22,000 USD) range. I know people say not to shy away due to mileage on Toyotas but I was wondering if this was a good price for the mileage or if I should continue looking for something new?

I'm not too into the off-roading scene but do go camping/fishing in the summer and occasionally hauling a dirtbike.

I have to flexibility right now to purchase cash if needed.

A new Limited is around $45k Canadian. I know Toyotas are reliable but I wouldn't go that high mileage on such a new vehicle. Being a Limited trim, they are harder to find but I am sure you can find a lower mileage example for not much more.

 

81K?? That's not too high. Seems like 22K US is a pretty good deal for a 17 Limited.

4x4 v6 right? I would buy it provided no rust or mechanical issues. A lot can happen in 80k miles.

 

I personally wouldnt buy a vehicle thats had more than 15-20k a year put on it. I think you can find a better deal on something with less mileage.

 

I also wanted to say inventory is super tight in most of Canada right now. I got my truck for $34,700CDN ($25,600 USD) with 22k km (14k mi) on it. It was only an SR5 but took it over a 2017 TRD OR short bed i was looking at for about $2k more with more than double the km on it yet was 2 years older. The other truck did sell within a couple days after I bought mine.

 

Depends on if they kept up with maintenance, if there’s records from Toyota then yes... if there’s no maintenance history I’d pass. There very few people on this site that drive enough to give you a valid opinion. Just look it over well, timing cover leaks, rear main seal leaks, but above all else maintenance records are key.

 

Inventory is tight everywhere because of the Kung Flu plague. It’ll get better in a few months, possibly a year.

 

A big reason people buy Tacos is because they last forever. Staying away from one because it's been used a bit seems odd.

If you're going to put a lot of mileage on it, I'd stay away simply because you'll get to the unwanted mileage numbers too quickly. If you're someone who drives a little less than average, this might be the perfect truck.
