Hey everyone, I’m needing help on fender & flare trimming. I’m prepping for running 35s. I’ve done the cab mount chop, the bfh thing and I’m ready to trim the fenders/flares. I have a 2015 DCSB with rear pelfrey hi clearance bumper. I’ve seen post where everyone trimmed up to 3 inches of the fenders/flares. I’m leaning towards using a jigsaw after reading lots of post. My question is in the rear where the fenders/flares meet the high clearance bumper. If your taking 3” off do you taper to 0 where they meet? I have to think that in the design of the pelfrey hi clearance rear bumper that they already took into account the clearance issue of the bumper at full stuff even running 35s.
Any help on locating the best trim molding ( that stays on ) to cover the cut fenders/flares would be appreciated. Also trying to get my hands on a full set of flare clips orange & blue. I found the part number and quantity here on TW. I think they even mentioned get a hold of ???? from TW as a supplier. I’m heading for Utah on the 17th and haven’t found any in stock or that I can order to be here soon enough to get things back together. Thanks for your help.

I did 3" in the rear and 2.5" up front-but because of 34" tires and +2 LT
combination of tin shears, dremel, body saw.
used a more matte black trim found at O'Reillys in 8ft length(?) sticks ok to the flare but gauge of metal pretty thin. I used clear gorilla tape at various spots to keep it attached on the metal fender. Flare seems to be holding up but because of the wind drag and lack of supports from the bottom because you cut the screws mounts away, I had to use JB plastic weld where the clips mount in to the fender flare.

EDIT: I am not sure that I have seen a taper fender/flare trim. I am not sure how clean it would look also. I have seen people lop 2" or 3" off the bumper, weld it back together and then just trim the fenders and flares 2" or 3" to match the lines.

    IMHO the latter is cleaner.

My HC rear was purchased from Pelfreybilt with the 2" removed with 35's in mind.

The 2nd photo is what I was referring to in that if I trim 3” off that I would taper from 3” to 0. Yours is a different situation without the bumper modification. Nice suspension you’re running there.

Bought my clips on Amazon, only took 1 day to get them, you'll need more blue than orange,

Lift man, thanks for the links. So you had pelfrey shorten the return on the bumper you ordered by 2” taking into account 35s you were running?
So my assumption that pelfrey bumper was sufficiently short enough at full stuff running 35s was wrong? I too have never seen the taper back to 0 , I was questioning how it would look and baffled how I would pull it off for that matter. I’ve seen a lot of photo here on TW with trimmed fenders/flares and until I saw everyone’s method of tapping off and marking the cut line I realized the cut would end up behind the bumper return ending point.

I bought my HC used from a local member who was already running 35's. When he ordered it, he asked to have it cut and shortened 2". I plan on running 35's eventually so it was another bonus. No lead times was another.

Modify your mods! I’m no Yoda when it comes to modifications for sure. I caught hell when I brought my new truck home in late 2015 and started cutting it up for that rear bumper. Although she has come around and has been on me ( not on me) to complete the trimming before the Utah trip on the 17th. Getter done!

I’ve known that I didn’t have the proper clearance at the fLares/fenders because I had already gotten into one of the rear flares running the 285/75s breaking some of the flare clips. I was just thankful it didn’t rip it off completely and f up the fender in the process. Here I thought I was a head of the curve doing the cab mount chop first and waiting tell no was around to get out the bfh. Thanks for everyone’s input.

Thanks for the trail toy link on the better edging. I haven’t had any issues with the edging they sent with the pelfrey rear bumper.

I don't have pelfrey bumper but I did taper my rear HC. Don't think it turned out too bad, and clears 36s with no problem.
