This mod adds an on/off switch to the "factory" DRL (Driving Running Lights) - For those with the "stock/factory" DRL option, or those that applied the "Factory DRL mod" as described in this DIY: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t176420.html

In case you're worried, this mod does not affect the "Turn Signal" or "Hazard" lights - Everything will function as expected, and you'll simply have a way to disable/enable DRL on demand, with an On/Off switch.

It was actually simpler than I expected... As shown below, all you have to do is interrupt the DRL signal, which is on the "Light-Green & Red" wire of the DRL harness (harness with 2 plugs on it - Part #82241-04030), which is connected to the DRL-capable relay (Part #81980-35020). Refer to the DIY mentioned above for suplementary installation instructions.

I hope you like this mod as much as I do.

    P.S.
I used an illuminated "Fog Light" switch, installed on one of the unused in-dash slots.
The two OEM-switch options I can suggest are:
    1) Older Tacoma switch: Part#00550-35976 ($6.98)
    http://www.rallylights.com/hella/switches_illuminated_rocker.asp

    2) 05+ Tacoma switch: you'll need 3 part #'s:
    Fog Light Switch - #84160-04010 ($35.88)
    Connector Housing - #90980-11090 ($2.63)
    Wires for Connector - #82998-12340 ($4.04)

That is excellent information. I will try it on my truck...

How do you add an "12v source accessory line"

I have a switch and the other parts to do the DRL mod, but I cant find any information about how the wires attach to the switch?

    thanks

Connecting 12v is not required for the DRL mod to work; and it's needed only if you want to illuminate the switch, when the switch is ON (pressed) - like the standard "fog" lamp switch on your truck.

"12V Acc" means that it is power available when the ignition key is on "Acc" (or when the truck is running) - like the 12V going to your radio & other accesories (so it shouldn't be hard to find a place to tap from).

    Good luck,

Thanks Hookem, I would like to illuminate the switch, and I still don't quite understand how to this is done? How do I know if a wire is 12v or not, and how do I "tap" from it. My switch has three screws in which I can attach wires, I assume two of them are for attaching the green and red wire from the DRL, leaving one spot left to attach this 12v wire to power the LED? So do I need to find a 12v wire and attach both ends to this one remaining spot? My switch has 6 numbered positions, and the three screws are attached at positions 2, 3, and 4.

sorry, I don't have a lot of experience in this, however, this mod seems easy and this is the only part I want to do and don't understand.

As shown in the diagram, you need to connect "12V" to pin#2 of the Illuminated switch, and "Ground" to pin#1... It's actually as simple as that!

Just find 12V from anywhere under your dash (e.g., the "12V" line going to the cigarette lighter), and make a connection from there (that's what I mean by "tapping").

:) This MOD works great on my 09. Note the connector in the picture above that has the green and red wire has 2 others wires in it now. Just work with the green and red wire.

I read somewhere that this mod will trip a trouble code. If I get one I will let you know.
