Nope. Loose your subscription, loose your ability to use the FOB to remote start. I tried many times to start as I too did not believe. What a crock.

For some reason Toyota gave me a free/extended month last month which is about to end. The only thing I’m continuing is the remote start, but just moth by month as I only use it in the winter, so about 3 more months. I couldn’t even tell you what to do with the other services as I never used them?

my trial period for my remote connect will expire next month and i'm hoping the fob will still remote start the engine. i did find this on the "Toyota Owners" webpage that says that the remote start on your fob should still work without the remote connect subscription as long as your vehicle was made after 11/12/18.

see the highlighted yellow area in the picture below...

I hear what you are saying, I am telling you that it does not work like that. My key fob stopped working the moment my service expired and would not work again till after I sub'd again and I have a 2020 TRD OR

My free trial year was up 12/28/2020 and sure enough my key FOB stopped working right away for remote start. I never used, registered or even opened the app. I only used the key FOB during 2020 for remote start. That sucks. Thanks for confirming it, I figured something had to be up for the immediate change.

Bingo...no one should have the right to disable free airwaves for something you paid for. A data device, I get, someone has to pay for that, but the fob too is baseless. My analogy is its the same as your tv provider not only cutting off your channels because you didn't pay, but also disabling the volume up/down feature on your TV remote to force you to pay for tv service/channels. Who does that? Weasels I tell ya!

Don't you like how there is a tech person to explain to people who don't want or need any of this connectivity on there vehicle, how it works? :)

If people wanted this stuff they would already know how it works... and it takes another 45min at the dealership to learn how the stuff works.

WoW, anything to separate us from our money :(

I would just get an emergency gps locator device if I were in your shoes, and as for remote connect, that's too intrusive for my taste so I would just get a hitch safe when I'm going way out from civilization, tow truck or pop-a-lock service for a one time expense and call it a day. Your call, your money, your choice though.

    Cheers!

If you’ve followed the trend in software you know that the sellers figured out they can make more by selling annual subscriptions.

Autos are following the same path. Eventually you will buy a car but unless you pay an annual fee it won’t run.

The sub service is a very small part of it all.

My subscription just expired on Feb 2nd so I can no longer use the app. The handheld remote still works though. The remote continues to work for some and not for others... don't know why.

I’d be curious to see if your remote works on sometime next week. Maybe there is a delay before they cut the remote off.

if not, I wonder if replacing the remote would enable ours again.

its a bummer they charge a bunch for it. I would love to have a way to connect to the car and do various activities. Lock doors, location, air other things if needed. You can get some other LTE devices if your mainly concerned with connectivity and location but does not give you all. I have a similar on another car but lucked out and grandfathered it free, would hate to have a regular cost.

The ATT LTE option is 10 a month but only works when the car is running
