When you visit Hawaii , Bring Spam, a gift everyone enjoys! Just maybe we share our spam with you. A Maybe? Lol

People are surprised to see Spam , eggs and rice for the breakfast meal. At a McDonald’s in Hawaii.A local flavorite dish.

I think the Portuguese sauguese , eggs and rice is more popular now.

Today even Burger King in Hawaii , serves Spam, eggs and rice for breakfast meals, in the Hawaii chains.
    ———-
During World war 2, meat was hard to get. Spam was a meat that needed no refrigeration. Often serve to the G.I. ( soldiers) .and share with the local population. Who grew to enjoy this delicious “meat” and became a local culture food.

The “Spam musubi” is serve everywhere! Even at Safeways.

There is a Costco in Maui! Near the city of Kahului . Very close to the airport and car rentals. Convenient for any visitors that need to stock up.

Taking a family of four? Might be cheaper if you came with three? Just kidding

Please enjoy the island of Maui! , Aloha

Thank you, I didn’t know McDonald’s has a local deluxe of Portuguese and spam. It’s being over two years since I being to a McDonald’s. (Covid) and the drive in is always too long of line.

Like the rope joke it takes to l-o-n-g to tell.

Those rules of posting calories? Nonsense everything has calories. Ok the smallest burger have the smallest calorie, that is why I eat two or three smaller burgers, instead of one big burger? The sign only post the calories for one burger. Not worried. Lol. Cause can only eat one at a time.

Don’t take this to seriously. I can add - two small burger + one large fry + lge reg coke = 3 lbs. , if I walk home I minus 1 lb. If I drive I add one pound back on.

The price for a hot dog has remained $1.50 since 1985. They sell over 130 million of them a year.

Costco spent half a billion dollars to get into farming their own chickens, just so they could keep the price lower.
They sell over 105 million rotisserie chickens a year.

So they are already giving up hundreds on millions of profit a year on 2 items and still coming out ahead. The prices probably won’t ever change.

Those animals right groups, sometimes I think they go to far. If they want every business to spent millions for every farm animal to live more comfortable.

Then those animal right groups should help raise the millions of dollars to support those companies.
Because if not those cost will be past on to you and me. Meaning NO more $4.99 chicken.
The chicken will live better , but our families will eat less.
    ——
Example Hawaii can go 100% geothermal, but a environmental group shut down the research and studies , so Hawaii will be using more oil to run our electricity.

Geothermal would reduce the cost to 3 cents instead 43 cents we now pay and geothermal would be cleaner energy.

Hawaii is a great place for solar. Electric companies runs on money collected by paying electric users. If more solar power is use? A small amount of money will be collected. So day time use of electric is very cheap, but once it gets dark the electric bills goes up per kilowatt. When there is no solar power. Meaning no loss of revenue.

The Hawaii electric company “preaches Hawaii need to go green” but really means they need more green money. So the more solar power is use the higher the cost of kilowatt!

The Costco return policy is amazing too. I returned a rug that after 3 years still had a bad crease in the middle and they had no problem taking it back. The guy said a law firm in town buys 60k in leather couches every year then returns them for new ones and they are trying to figure out how to put an end to that one.

Their clothes selection has become a lot better too, including 5 pocket Rip Curl shorts that last for $15 every summer.

The 2% cash back on the Exec membership stacks on top of the 2% back on Costco purchases from their Visa card which also does 4% back on gas.

Most importantly, I lived off mostly the $5 rotisserie chicken for a couple years and still am not burnt on it.

That 4% cash Back is a super deal. My wife does not like credit cards, I have one credit card, from a credit union and have a very low interest rates, compare to Costco Visa card rates.

My wife always pay cash , we use a Costco cash card when buying gas. When I shop I use a debit card.
She could pay off the Costco visa card every month, she does not want to

Not having a credit card bill is better then a 4%cash back rebates, the credit card interest rates takes it all back. If you do not pay it off ever month.

Off course when you travel , rent a car, airline tickets, hotel rooms, etc you need a credit card. We budget ourselves to pay it off ASAP.
The money we save, let’s us buy more “chickens”.

We love Costco, and prefer going very early or late to avoid the crowds. They definitely had some of the best deals when we lived in HI too.

I just assumed the cheap chickens and hot dogs were sold as a loss as a “perk.”

Its a way to bring customers in and purchase more. Hell, I went for toilet paper and left with a smoker along with toilet paper.

Yep! Very few people go in to a Costco to buy just one stuff! Often needing to get a wagon. The bargains. Always look for the a . 97 cents ending on the full prices , means it is on sale like $12.97. Instead of 15.99 before.
Also look for the “Asterisk” many times it will be discounted and never will be restock.

The 00 cents or 88 cents ending is a mangers discount for a faster sell out. A super discount.

A 49 cents ending or 59 cents ending means, Costco got a special deal from the manufacturers.

A yellow price tag may not show the exact discount, but will be discounted at the register.

Just last week a couple’s shopping wagon was full to the max! Leaving the register, I over heard them saying “ I thought we had only $300 worth of goods” “ I never expect $600 dollars” as they were leaving.

I love Safeway $5.00 dollar Fridays, lots of specials for $5.00. The eight piece chicken for $5.00 when on specials. Steaks costing only $5.00 a pound, etc.

Today is a Friday, but we just went to Costco on Wednesday. Staying home today.

Yep. Same reason why stuff is always moving around. You go in for one item where it originally was but it got moved making you look for it, and do impulse buys.

This is a common practice for most retailers. Re-location of products. Plus alway changing displays.

When shopping at most places that I visit often, I found parking in the same area helps us find our trucks.

One Christmas at major shopping center was so busy, finding a parking space was almost impossible. I ended up parking on the other side where I normally wouldn’t do.
Came out and I couldn’t remembered where I park. Ala Moana Shopping Center today has over 350 stores, including 160 dining options. 11,000 free parking stalls. Several levels.

That is funny. But true. Big island almost everyone hunts or fish, and everywhere there are roads not pave. Or just to go to some beaches. Or visit a friend you will need a 4x4.
Toyota rules here too. Years ago every other vehicle was a 4x4. Maybe today every three is a 4x4? Kona side.

For me to get home requires a 4x4 unless you like walking down a hilly dirt road. And back up to the highways.
We do not get many visitors. When they do call , we gotta take our Tacoma to get them and bring them back up.
Most people who comes here to the coffee farm for the first time are really surprised. How we live. Off the grid.
It is like the 1900s. Lol
