Good, at least they can get it to display quality for future generations and not lost forever in a wreck like so many others...

Looks pretty good for taking a dip.

Is it non-repairable or just lacks the funding to fix?

It's owned by the Valiant Air Command Museum out of Ti-co(Space Coast Regional Airport) which operates completely on volunteer staffing, I think its too big of an undertaking for them to take on.

From what I can tell, most of the exterior damage was done getting the craft to the shore and dragging it across the sand. It's a shame for sure but glad it can be saved at least for display.

The Kissimmee airfield could do it, they have all the facilities needed, they own a P51 race plane and are regularly doing restorations.

They fixed it up once before - took years - and just got her flying again in early 2020. If money were no object I'm sure they would have her in the air again. But there are several other planes that they are working on at the moment too so it may come down to which projects will be the "easiest" to complete. @kamakazie_1 can give the inside scoop

Wow, so she barely tasted air again and she went swimming.

I wonder if it's pilot error or if she's just tired and wants to take the long rest.

Is the service history on the craft known?

I doubt pilot error on account of how he handled the crash - managed to fly over dozens of folks on the beach and in the water and no one was injured in any way. He knew what he was doing, even in such a dire situation.

Here's a little blurb on the history

Ah so some mechanic failure, that's unfortunate, guess she's just tired of flying.

Neat article but nothing about the wreck.

one night last summer while i was out camping and waiting for a chance to shoot the neo-wise comet I was just hanging by the fire and watching the sky. had about 20 starlinks pass over, running more or less N - S, at about 8 second intervals. was pretty cool to see, definitely unique. then something 10x' brighter crossed the path running W - E and I didn't see anymore. Weird timing. lots of other weird shit in the sky that night.

Do you happen to know what night?

I wonder if we'll pass through the same field of weird again this orbit or if it's already long passed.

Most "linked" star link's I've seen is 5 in a row, it is weird to witness.

Just checked my photos - July 18 last year. Didn't get any photos of them though.

This was the other weird shit going on that night... this was looking SE, 15-second exposures back to back_MG_0308.jpg

    _MG_0309.jpg

    _MG_0310.jpg
Pay attention to the top left
first there were 4 lights, 1st and 4th the brightest
    upload_2021-5-9_20-17-10.jpg
then 5 but the 2nd, 3rd, 4th were brighter than the leading one and much closer together
    upload_2021-5-9_20-18-29.jpg
and then just 2 but farther apart again
    upload_2021-5-9_20-19-24.jpg
i didn't actually see that while i was out there, only after when i started editing. i moved my camera after those three shots so no idea where those specks ended up. just interesting to see the sequence and difference in brightness/spacing yet they all appeared to stay together so i would guess it was from the same source and traveling at the same speed :alien:

My wife and I saw those last night walking the dog, probably 30 of them. Crazy!! Probably the scariest part about the alien invasion I thought we were witnessing was an unprompted article appearing on my Google cards right after thag about the satellite trains.

Possibly the ISS (International Space Station), is what you may have seen. There are a few web sites that will give you a time of day/night an actual day or night it will fly over where you are. Will admit.. It's cool to see. I showed this to my kids along with Nieces and Nephews years ago.. They thought it was the coolest thing in the world when it flew over our area and they actually saw it. That was a good 10-15 years ago and they still talk about it today.

Actually, 6 years ago when I became a board member the plane flew several test flights, it had some gremlins so she went back under the knife. Yes it is a massive undertaking to rebuild her again, besides the salt intrusions she actually looked worse when we first got her..

There is a lot of CRACK POTS out there that think they know everything, she will most likely be rebuilt as static, cost to put her back to flight ready is around $500K now. It would be cheaper to buy one at this point.

Board met Saturday and no decision has been made yet. FAA and NTSB have closed their books on the issue, it's up to insurance now.

Just got back from a couple nights of camping in Death Valley. Friday night I saw four Starlink "trains". The first one was cool...the second one I thought was a bit much...then the third crossed the path of the first two at a right angle (West to East) and the fourth was South to North. Last night there was nothing. So are these "trains" going to be up there in the same fashion or do they disperse to a geo-stationary orbit? If I was a serious astrophotographer I'd be pissed having these things moving through my exposures. Especially if doing star trail exposure.

They disperse but they aren't geostationary. They still follow each other in patterns across the sky.

Bummer. It got old fast. Are they like other satellites and only reflect sunlight? If so they'll only be visible for a while after sunset.

definitely not the ISS. I remember before I left for the weekend I looked to see what all was going to be visible in the sky (besides neo-wise) and where and when to make sure that I could try to catch as much as possible. No ISS that night. Plus when the ISS is over me its orbit makes it so that it travels more longitudinally. Whatever I saw that night was traveling almost due east and super fast, the ISS would be out for a casual stroll in comparison.

you calling me a crack pot RJ? :quickdraw:
That's a lot of money to sink into a plane, I know you guys got a lot of others you're working on too.
