The SWR meter hooks up between the cb and antenna coax like so. Not powered by a battery.

You want to tune it out in as big of an open space as possible.

I've had mine running through the rear slider for years without issue.

I will probly run it through the rear window at least for the day. It's probly not going to be a permanent fixture in my truck. If anyone does have a meter that I can use to tune the radio though that would be awesome! If need be I can financially compensate someone if they want to hook me up with a tune.

I believe you can get them on Amazon for about $20. Not a bad investment

If you spend around 100.00 - 130.00 for a cobra 29 its has a built in SWR meter probably not as accurate as an external one. One less thing to keep track of. Sometimes you can catch the cobras on sale at truck stops for under a hundred........30 day money back guarantee , at pilot truck stops.

Probably have the only 2nd Gen with an 8274 in the world.
AS for antennas, the "plastic" bed of the Tacoma sucks for mounting an antenna on the bed, so I'd suggest either a mag-mount or roof mount (via drilling hole in roof) Wilson 1000. I run a roof-mounted Wilson 1000 and a Galaxy 959. The 1000 is damned near idiot proof.

Have tried to make a bed-mounted 102" whip work but haven't gotten it 100% yet.

The cb itself didn't work we tried wiring it up and it turns out I just need to get something else. So I did. Only problem is I didn't have time to get it hooked up before the meet today. O well. Looks like I have it for the future meets and wheeling!
