So I finally went to the border to pick mine up, here is what I found.

Keep in mind both of the axles I purchased were listed as NTO.

One was definitely an NTO while the other was definitely NOT an NTO.
One axle had no wear from the needle bearing and the threads on the bearing end were perfect. The other had wear from the needle bearing (meaning its not NTO) and the threads are messed up at the beginning of the shaft, much like in hartford post. This is most likely from the buffoon that was taking the axles off, he/she bashed on the axle shaft with a steel hammer until it popped out of the hub.

both are still very usable parts in great shape. Lets face it, your getting a practically new axle for next to nothing compared to the stealership price, you might loose an evening or a few extra bucks filing out the threads or taking it to a machine shop but for 93.96 USD I'm happy as a pig in a potato field!

What I would recommend doing from now on is calling Spalding and asking if someone could check out the part before sending it out, the staff seemed pretty helpful when I complained about the threads so they might be willing to take a look for you.

I only ordered one, so I'm hoping its a good one. When I called he actually found me a new take off from his store since I hadn't found one. If it is damaged I'm hoping they'll make it right.

The guy who answered the phone didn't sound like he was near the parts to check though. Maybe put s note in the buying box about not getting a damaged one.

May buy another if this one is in good shape as my truck is at 110k miles and a boot could rip at any time with the harsh winters. With prices this low, its worth it

On other vehicles I've worked on the auto part store axles have worked just fine. Usually give a hefty warranty on them too.

Check their eBay page. Last I checked a long time ago, all the NTO axles were sold and they only had used ones. Could always call them to see what condition the used are in. May be perfectly fine.

there's actually a fair number of seemingly reputable OEM used parts vendors on ebay. I ordered two cv axles tonight...will post back with my findings.
