help for my dad changing a tire

My dad is getting older like you do. the other day he was switching his summer tires for his winter tires and asked for my help putting on the winter tires on because lifting is getting harder for him. Does anybody have info a link a video or anything that can assist getting tire switched. what if he gets a flat and cant switch it. He says he can if its a must but what if physically cant lift the tire up. somebody has to have a solution.

 

At my friends tire shop, they lift semi truck tires up with long crow bars to get them aligned on the studs, but I doubt that is the end all for your problem.

 

But in all seriousness....If he cant lift, there is no use in him trying to rig something up that could cause more hurt to him. Just call the local LEO agency to come help or AAA.

 

How about a wheel dolly? Not sure you want to carry this in the vehicle all the time, but would definitely help with the tire change.

this is for moving cars but if you made something similar it'd work to line up wheels onto the hubs.

I had elbow trouble for 5 yrs and just got surgery 6mnths ago
Couldnt lift wheels (285s) so i used a 2x4 block and flat crow bar
I would step on bar with foot and guide tire with hands onto studs
To set up i would alway have 1stud top center and try to have rim holes pretty lined up before lifting

 

Don't raise the truck too much, that way very little lifting is necesary.

 

How does he loosen the lug nuts if he can’t lift a tire. Battery impact wrench work great if he doesn’t already have one. Really like my Milwaukee model #2861 for tire use. Maybe just carry a small aluminum floor jack and only jack up as far as he needs to just to slide tire on and off.

 

If he can't lift the tire though, how is he going to get it out to put it on, or put the flat away is another question. :/

 

all good points. Im just asking for him and he does not know that im asking. I know he has a long time till he CANT do it in a must situation. Our thought was that he has a burly roof rack so we were thinking using a pulley of some sort for mechanical advantage to pull up the tire and swing it into place

 

Easier for him to pick it up and put it in the trunk, then would be to bend over and put a tire on for sure, I’m thinking anyways.

 

im just thinking proactive for him right now not a huge problem. if i was not just down the street i know he could do it himself just easier with me and got me thinking on what he could do to make his life easier
