ROUNDED 12MM NUTS ON DOWNSTREAM SENSOR

Hey guys. This is my first post with TC.

I am attempting to replace the downstream sensor and ran into rounded (corrosion), original nuts. I removed the heat shield for better access and have been spraying the crap out of it with PB. I went searching for an extractor today and could only find the Gator. I think that it might be too wide to slip in there but I plan to try and hit it again tomorrow. I was also wondering about heat. I don't have an acetylene torch. I do have a propane torch though.

So...has anyone used this Gator socket with success? And will the propane torch give me enough heat assuming it (gator) can grip onto these nuts.

We've all done this at one point or another, lots of folks try to pound on a smaller socket or cut the nut off. But you can also use one of these awesome sockets. They're exactly for removing rounded fasteners.

Honestly I would just abandon and cut a new hole and install a new bung right next to it. Had to do that on my truck about a year ago actually. Different generation but similar problem.

 

How do you screw it up that bad, the studs are removable if you mess them up and the nuts are replaceable.

 

I thought we were talking about O2 sensors. My bad.

 

We are, the O2 bung you can replace the studs and nuts if they get messed up somehow.
