SOLVED: Issue with new dash cam (the story of how I bought the wrong adapter)

I'm not electrically inclined, and I just wanted to see if there are any thoughts on my recent experience.

I got a Rexing V1P dual dash cam:

I also bought this smart module that is supposed to cut it off under a certain voltage.

I used that kit to tap a 15A constant power fuse under the dash.

After hooking it all up and setting up the camera, I noticed that the camera will come on like you'd expect, only to reboot after about 15-20 seconds. I couldn't figure out what was wrong, and while troubleshooting I found that unplugging the rear camera would keep it from rebooting.

So here's my question: Could it be overtasked with both cameras, exceeding the 12v limit on the smart module, causing it to reset? Or is this way off and probably just a bad unit?

Maybe it's not getting enough power to it, and the rear is drawing too much

You have the V1P 3rd gen?

I have the V1.
It kept rebooting and turning off by itself.
It did not like the 128g mem card.
Works fine with a 64g now.

 

I never noticed that! Good catch.

I ended up trying the included 12v cigarette adapter, and it works like a charm. I just routed it under the armrest, through the center console and up the passenger side pillar. Everything works perfectly now.
