Moving on to another project that needs attention on my 03. Has anybody used like Dorman power window setup vs factory Toyota ?
I know the factory OEM piece is better in the long run, but don’t have the jingle for that now. $65 for the whole setup from Parts Geek. Almost seems TOO cheap !
Thanks for any advice or brand suggestions.

A window regulator gets put under some pretty high stresses. I hope someone comes on that has experience with a cheaper brand, otherwise I'd be leery of using one that cheap unless it was a rebuild of OEM (doubtful) vs new knock-off.

What went bad on your original? If it's the motor, odds are you could find a motor at a u pull the part type salvage yard. Camry/Tacoma from the late 90-early 2000's likely have the same motor. I haven't ever checked compatibility, but it is likely due to common source for the parts.

As for Tacoma, I checked RockAuto and it looks like same part # 95-2003 on the "various manufacturer" offering. So salvage part from 1st gen range should work.

I bought a DORMAN 741-799. regulator + motor from O'Reilly and installed it on Saturday afternoon. I already had the door panel off to replace speakers so I decided to go for it. The original Toyota motor was working ok. It was just to fix a rattle from worn nylon rollers. So I will keep the original motor in the event the motor goes out.

    EXPERIENCE

I do run DORMAN regulators and window motors in another car for 4 years without issue. It turns the parts are made in Taiwan. So it might stand a chance of running for a while. Some DORMAN parts are ok in non-critical application space.

    BOTTOM LINE

The rattle is gone and the window motor seems to be quieter than the old one.
