This is supposed to be a tough product designed for emergency services highly demanding condition. I do search and recovery and this system lasted only a couple of months. It stopped working and when we opened some poor soldering and plastic components melted in the sun inside our recovery 4x4. All other equipment still functions, we are not talking of desert heat, just a hot day. Do not buy, rubbish.

Returning this unit and the Wolo 4003 because the horn feature POP's loudly and the PA feature is awful. Replaced first 4100 because I thought the microphone was broken, but the 2nd unit did the same thing. Using it with the recommended 4003 100 watt speaker, the PA is just terrible. The gain must be turned way up and then your mouth has to be ON the microphone which causes the sound to be indiscernible. Siren feature works great, but this purchase was more for the PA and horn.

Speaker works fine with siren features, but when the horn switch is pushed, there is a VERY loud pop. Giving up and returning both parts.

Why I dislike this product, The price is Ok, but the siren manuel operation sound need to be improved. Unless i have defective one, the little black frame around the manuel operation switch came off, outside of the the siren is almost like the Federal PA 300. I like to thank you for making this product, it help's keep the operation cost down. and if you improve it I would like to be the first to try it out.

This is almost a carbon copy of the Federal PA300, Has plenty of power to drive a 100 Watt speaker. The major difference is the ability the Deputy has to control the volume of all the functions with the gain control. The gain control on the Federal PA300 controls only the volume of the PA system. The feature is a mixed blessing. It allows you to decrease the volume in areas that a full volume system would be inappropiate, such as demos involving senior citizens and children. The downside of the volume control is to remember to turn it up high enough when you really need the volume in an emergency. One other feature that is less than desirable is the cheap feel and look of the selector switch. It does not have the same size and feel of the Federal, and took some fiddling with to align the mark on the switch with the marks on the face of the unit. One other thing I noticed is that the volume must be turned fairly high for the PA system to work properly. The low setting for the PA results in a garbled sound from the PA. It seems to be a workable unit, well worth the discounted price Amazon sell it for.($143.00) But I would not pay the advertized price found in other sources.

I already had a Speaker { 4x6" 50-Watt Indoor/Outdoor Powerhorn } from Radio shack installed that I used with my CB radio. This thing is loud, I mean I jumped when I installed it and accidentally had it on with the yelp setting. PA is really loud, louder then my CB PA system { about 3 times louder }. Really helpful when trying to tell people to go or don't block the box. One day the traffic was stopped because two idiots decided to get out their cars and argue. I got on the PA and said " I suggest you guys get moving unless you want a ride downtown." They looked around and drove off. Guy next to me gave me the thumbs up because I was in a work truck lol. I will update to see how long this product works. Granted I don't use it everyday. UPDATE... 1/13/15 siren stop working today. I will check to see if the wire came off the speaker { too cold outside } because I can hear the siren sounds coming from the unit box. UPDATE 2/2024 Still working. loooks beat up, but will transfer to my new Truck with a new speaker.

Sometimes I have to turn off and on a couple times to get on. Works most the time though. Also the warranty is shady on this. I called wolo because the second one that I ordered was missing the wire harness. They will not cover there neglect in shipping a complete package. They want me to pay for this because I did not inspect my package right away. FYI inspect this if you order it right away to avoid the same problems that i have.

Didn't seem as loud as my Federal Signal look alike. I do like the fact that the siren is fully controllable with the volume control. A lot better than testing a full power output, inside the shop. That means I don't have to do the 100w light bulb trick.

One con. When interfacing the siren to the radio, I found that the siren dragged the audio of the radio down. I solve that with a 100v .001uf capacitor in series with the tip of the 3.5mm jack. Be aware of this.

Overall, I really liked the siren and would purchase again.
