Ok, I read the negative reviews and positive reviews. Ordered anyway after calling Camco and talking to their rep. Apparently the negative reviewers never contacted Camco as they were very helpful and forthcoming. They said they were unaware of multiple failures. Being from a mechanical background I disassembled mine. The problem with breaking while tightening is from gross over tightening. There is no stop to prevent this. The toothed nylon drive for the suction cup is being stripped out by excessive force. For those complaining about suction cup holding but mirror move down vertically, that is most likely also from over tightening. The tightening mechanism end is enclosed and secured by the rear portion of the suction cup. So continuing to turn the knob after suction cup is at full grip causes the tightening mechanism to break free and slip inside the suction cup. This allows the cup to remain stationary and the weight of the mirror to rotate down. Over-tightening can also make the mirror fall off going down the road as the suction cup as been pulled past it max grip shape and actually loses suction.... think from ( to this <You just have to rotate knob CCW (suction cup moves outward) until suction cup is flat, edges not quite touching the black housing. Press the suction cup against the vehicle mirror by gripping the black housing and then turn the knob 2.5 turns CW. Look at the words embossed on the knob to know how many full turns you make. As there will be some variance, check that it is secure and if not remove and reapply using 3 turns CW if necessary. I tested it on the car at 70 mph + and then placed it on my bathroom mirror with a heavy cotton bath sheet size towel hanging on it for 4 days without it moving. Maybe wear factor will cause eventual failure but so far I am satisfied with the design and function of this Camco mirror. I would suggest that Camco make the flats on the toothed suction cup mechanism smaller to increase tooth width to make it harder for teeth to break under over-tightening and a positive stop to limit tightening. I just don't see that this mod is necessary, IF care is taken. Photo 1) width of teeth suction cup mechanism(SCM), 2) suction cup mechanism, 3) geared drive for SCM inside the adjustment knob(note flats to prevent SCM from rotating)I will update after a couple of road trips. Vibration and wind buffering over time may change my mind on functionality.

These mirrors are a good value. Very easy to install and remove. I tried the "clip-on" units first and they are junk. They won't stay on like these and they vibrate worse. Save you money and just buy these.
Two tips: First, they have two varieties. One just flat mirror for less money. One that is a "closer than appears" mirror for passenger side. I just bought two of the flat/standard mirrors for each side and they work fine for less money. Second, understand that these mirrors don't adjust by themselves, i.e. no ball swivel. They're static and just stick to your existing mirror. So you re-adjust your existing car/truck mirror to alight these extensions where you want them. If you don't have a round fish-eye mirror on your car mirror, I suggest you add it (simple stick-on). The combination of this extension and the fish-eye (little round mirror) works great for full view - close and far.

This mirror is surprisingly secure, it didn't move at all even at high speeds. The trick (mentioned in other reviews) is not to over-tighten the dial as it may strip the screw, just make it snug and it won't move. I have an auto-dimming mirror and asked Camco why it isn't recommended for auto-dimming mirrors; I didn't get a response but it seems to function fine.
I will mention that the safety leash was broken on my mirror, though it is so thin I'm not sure if would hold the mirror if it fell of anyway. I'm not deducting a star for that since the mirror held well enough not to worry about it.

Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2011
    Style: Passenger SideVerified Purchase
I bought 1 of these, then a 2nd one after testing the first. So I was happy enough with the Tow-N-See to buy that 2nd mirror, and got 2 for less than the price of a single, more expensive type of towing mirror with straps and door hooks, etc. As noted in another review, the Tow-N-See may intersect the lip around the mirror of your vehicle, depending on how "deep" that lip may be and how you have the factory mirror adjusted. You want to mount the suction cup as far out on the mirror as possible to get the widest view. Depending on your vehicle, that lip may hit the bar of this mirror at certain adjustment angles. However, if you buy the wideangle "Convex" mirror (not the other Tow-N-See model which is flat, not convex) this should be less of an issue. It "sees" wide enough even when not at optimum adjustment due to the wideangle convex view. Anyway, if in doubt, try it and if it won't work, amazon will take it back.

Tips for mounting: clean your mirror with windex or similar product. It will not stick well to a mirror with dirt/dust on it! Clean the suction cup too if dusty. The suction cup may be slightly deformed at first; try wetting it slightly, and/or warming it on your hand, or in your hot car for a few minutes. This makes it more flexible and increases suction. It will not mount well at cold temperatures. Make sure the screw device on the back of the suction cup is unscrewed most of the way before attempting to install. If you unscrew it too far, it will come off, no big deal, just put it back in the slot/hole and screw it in a bit. Press the (dampened, warmed) suction cup against the (clean) mirror, flat/flush as possible. Turn the screw device until quite tight. It's not hard but may take a little practice, and may drop off the first time or two you try to put it on. Take a test drive BEFORE leaving on your 300-mile camping trip to make sure you've got it on there right. Use the tether (you loop this stretch cord over your car's mirror), it will save you and your Tow-N-See if you have a problem with the suction cup.

The 2 problems I had, both not too big a deal: 1. On a Toyota SUV, in a strong headwind, driver's side mirror was forced by the wind into its most "inward" position by the Tow-N-See being installed, with that extra drag on the factory mirror. I could still see with the towing mirror though, due to the wide-angle/convex construction. There is a clutch or safety in the Toyota factory mirror for accidental bumping or over-adjustment like this, so there was no damage to the factory mirror, I just adjusted it as normal once the towing mirror was off of there. YMMV. 2. I was driving into higher mountain elevations (7000 feet) after installing at lower elevations. One mirror lost its suction and dropped off (saved by the tether, it just banged into the side of my car with no damage to car or mirror). I stopped and also found the other mirror was getting "loose", i.e. I could tighten it a bit more than when I installed it that morning. I believe the lower air pressure (and possibly lower temperature) at high elevation caused this change to the suction. So check those mirrors once in a while if you are climbing in elevation while traveling.

I really dislike the alternatives in towing mirrors, too expensive and straps or hooks everywhere. I know some people prefer the other kind though. These mirrors are good enough for my purposes of towing a camper behind an SUV. I drove 800 miles on a camping trip and only had the 2 minor problems mentioned above. There is slight vibration but not a big problem. I'd rate them 4 or 5 stars if they made the bar adjustable or angled around that "lip" of the factory mirror, and maybe an option to lengthen it slightly, but this would probably introduce more issues of drag/stability.

WE bought these as thought being able to adjust them on the car was great but they are genuinely rubbish, firstly they fall off regularly, the suction cup struggles to get a good bond. The other major issues are the mirror size, it is tiny, you cant get a good view of the caravan and the mirrors have started to fail, like old bathroom mirrors, the glass has gone patchy and pitted.
The worst issue is the fact that they are on your driving mirrors, the mirrors on our Kia wobble a bit and so the towing mirrors wobble but much worse, they also block a huge section of mirror making the drive dangerous at times. They have today gone in the bin and been replaced.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality product but could be better

These are very useful towing mirrors but my only complaint is that the mirrors are a little too small and the passenger side mirror 'objects' are much too far away. They mount and grip perfectly, and the mechanism is very well made and easy to secure. The only time the mirror dropped was when I didn't clean the mounting surface first! Put over 3000 kms in one round trip with these on, at highway speeds, high winds and rain storms, and never a problem. For a small vehicle with a small RV in tow these would be perfect. For our GM Canyon and a 22' RV, not so much, unfortunately :-( Too bad the mirrors aren't a couple inches larger, they would be perfect.

    3.0 out of 5 stars Don't over-tighten

These mirrors work pretty well - they provide good visibility, vibration is minimal, and they stick well - as long as you don't over-tighten them. But if you do over-tighten then, and it's easy to do, then they are done. The internal screw strips, and they won't tighten down enough to stay stuck when the door closes or if it's windy. Unfortunately, I didn't discover this until too late, and I can no longer return them.

If you're very careful with these, they work well, but given the fragility, I wouldn't buy them again.
