It removes the lock washer behind the manual lockout assembly. You’ll need it again after fishing the part which seats onto the rear washers “bump”. Please get the book from AutoZone or somewhere for your vehicle. You’ll need a torque wrench for reassembly and there’s a trick to the inner most washer and locking plate.
I used a breaker bar but really would have benefited from a 1/2” extension on it, especially for reassembly. Get disposable and mechanics gloves, you get the full spectrum of dirt and knuckle busting on this job.
If you’re doing this job make sure and have some spindle speedee sleeves where the hub seal runs on the spindle in case there is wear.
