I used this on 6mm neoprene and it worked great. A little different than leather, had to smack it a little harder because of the bounce in the rubber but I go the exact clean cut I was looking for. Cuts a perfect circle in difficult to cut material!

It was not very sharp on arrival, and after using it to punch out hard density felt wads it lost what little sharpness it had. The steel was very soft, as if it had not been hardened at all. So I used a grinder wheel to sharpen the punch a bit, then hardened the steel in my forge. It now cuts through 1/8" hard felt with a single blow from a 2lb deadblow hammer.

A cautionary note: if you decide to attempt the same thing and google how to harden steel, also google tempering. You need to temper this punch after heating and quenching, otherwise it will be too brittle.

I ordered this for a one time use to punch through rubber weather strips on a truck. Those strips had a thin metal strip in them as well. The product held up through all 10 punches i had to make. Chewed up the blade a bit considering I forced it through rubber and tin. But it got my job done.
