How to fit fat tires on Radbike

How to fit fat tires on Radbike
My Radwagon has tires that are too fat for the original quick release that came with this product. I ordered a longer skewer which is too thin and flops around in the mount. Then went to the hardware store and bought metal spacers to make the skewer thicker. The skinner ones in the middle had to be aluminum because the steel didn't fit inside the mount. The thicker outer ones that the fork sits on are steel. Then 1/2 inch nuts for the forks to grab on to. The bike is pretty stable and we also transport with the kickstand down and a tow strap over the frame (an abundance of caution). This has worked out well and we can put both our Radwagons in the bed of our truck without them laying down and getting damaged.

This is a very well built block and has worked out better than expected! I have a 2011 Toyota Tacoma crew cab with a 5' bed and I already have a hitch bike carrier for two bikes but wanted to be able to carry two more bikes in the truck bed. The truck bed has a cargo rail on each side and on the front but I also have a tonneau cover that takes up about 16 inches when folded all the way up. So I wanted to carry a couple of bikes sideways in the bed but did not have a way to easily attach them there.
After I got the bike block, I bought a couple of 1/4 " stainless steel machine screws (you could use stove bolts too) about 1" long and a couple of fender washers. I also added a short rectangular piece of metal with a 1/4" hole in it that would slide into the rail but long enough (about an inch) to not turn freely once inside the rail like the washers would. Then I ran a nut down tight to hold the washers and metal piece tightly together. I did this because I could not hold the bolt from turning as I tightened it to the bike block and because with the nut holding the washers tight the bolt will stick out perpendicular to the rail which made it easier to attach the block. I slid two of these bolts with washers into the rail from one end, attached the bike block to both bolts ( I positioned the block so the bolts would be on the bottom) and presto, I have a bike block that I can slide up and down the rail and can attach a bike where ever I need to. And I can leave it there and close the tonneau cover without it being in the way.
I am getting another bike block to place on the other side of the bed so I can carry two bikes. If you don't have a tonneau cover and can get to the front rail, you could carry three bikes in this size bed all attached to the front rail. Pretty neat for those who have a pick-up with a cargo rail system.

I bought this for my 2011 Toyota Tundra's bed. Its a short bed (5.5 feet) but its a work truck, so its got a fold up ladder, step ladder, granule spreader and a full size toolbox. I was pretty slim on space and kept having to empty my bed several times a week to put my bike in and it didn't even fit well then. After looking at a lot of solutions, I figured this would be easiest. It doesnt come with bed rail mounting hardware of course, but the one that does costs more than 3x this one. I went to Lowe's after measuring the bed rails and got some washers, bolts, nuts and locking washers. I mounted them myself and it seems to work great. The mount itself is solid, doesnt feel cheap in any way. My only small complaint is I wish the lockdown (not sure what thats actually called) never feels tight. I can screw the other side down as far as I can get it with my hands and it still isn't a satisfying clamp down. That said, I've taken my bike (mounted side ways in the bed) on the highway doing 70-75mph and never had an issue. The back tire sits on my ladder so I just take a thick piece of velcro to keep it from sliding off of the step of the ladder its on. I'm really pleased with it, especially at that price point. I'll take a picture and update this review!

I like this bike fork mount. I use it to mount my bike inside my Rav4. I put this mount on top of 4" x 36" piece of wood. It keeps my bike upright during transport without having to strap down the bike. The only draw back is this quick release skewer doesn't self center. So I have to center it manually in order to mount the bike.

I installed this bike fork mount into my 2005 Tacoma's bed rail system. Works well. For those of you who are interested, I installed as follows.

Parts:
* 2 stainless steel pan head machine screws, 3/8-16 x1"
* 2 3/8 c-channel spring nuts, like Superstrut ZA1003/8EG-10

Installation:
1) Drill out the bolt holes in the mount to 3/8".
2) Shorten the springs on the spring nuts to about 1". I used a cut-off wheel in a Dremel to do this.
3) Insert 3/8" screws through the mount. Partially screw on the c-channel spring nuts.
4) Insert the c-channel spring nuts into an open end of the bed railing, then slide the entire mount assembly to the desired location.
5) Tighten.

It is possible to use standard 3/8" nuts and 3/8" fender washers instead of c-channel spring nuts, but this makes installation significantly harder.

This product works like a champ. I mounted it to a HaulMaster ratcheting cargo bar ($22) with two stainless 1/2" wide pipe/hose clamps ($3). I can now mount the cargo bar anywhere in the bed of any truck for a secure temporary bike mount. I'm very impressed with the quality and finish. Thinking about purchasing another to be able to haul another bike. Hint: mount the cargo bar a few inches from the front of the bed and you have a perfect spot to wedge in the wheel between the bed wall and cargo bar. Wrap the bar in pipe insulation ($2) to protect wheel from scratches. Super easy and way cheaper than a high dollar set up. Ive had riders asking me all the time where I ordered my set-up.

I was tired of having my bike laying on it's side in the back of my Xterra, so I bought this awesome and solid fork mount and attached it to some 4 foot long bar (originally intended for use as a wall mounted rack to attach hooks to from Lowe's) with 1/4'' bolts. I mounted two metal brackets I had laying around towards the ends and attached self stick velcro hooks to the bottom of those to keep it unpermanently stuck to my trunk mat. I also attached more self stick velcro pads to the bottom of the mat and the trunk to keep the mat in place. With two bungee cords for extra measure, it's a great internal bike mount for less than 30 bucks total with hardware! I've attached a photo of my dirt-cheap setup.

For proper fit, I do have to take off my seat and front wheel, but that takes less than 30 seconds to do that and another 30 seconds for bungee tie-down. It's totally worth having the bike secured upright inside the back of my Xterra!
