The director has an interview on the DVD in which he states that this movie was only made to shock people and make money. He said that they were wanting to cash in on the success of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. While this movie is nowhere near the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, for the right audience, this movie has its place.
The demons have truly come to the peaceful little Greek island, and this strangely beautiful little slasher film is out to shock amid the photographic splendor. Directed by Greek exploitation director Nico Mastorakis and with some very odd but seductive songs on the soundtrack. They will keep running through your head long after the fake blood has dried.
With a heated performance by Robert Behling as the handsome but self-righteous angel of death, Christopher, and a seductive non-performance by Jane Lyle as Celia his lover and muse. (They share a surprising past.) Just drop all inhibitions and enjoy it for what it is.
P.S iam toying with the idea of taking my parents to see a greek film now and puting this on the dvd player for them, they may not be to eager to see another greek film after this

Reportedly made on a budget of US$ 30,000 by the Greek director Nico Mastorakis, this picture brought to you by Arrow Video is looking remarkably fresh with its vivid colours but still to this day, courting much controversy over its content and narrative.
There are the well established film directors who learnt their craft in shooting various types of film genre before moving over to the exploitation cinema such as Lucio Fulci (Zombie Flesh Eaters, The New York Ripper ), Joe D'Amato (Emanuelle in America, Anthropophagus), and Ruggero Deodato (Cannibal Holocaust, House on the Edge of the Park) etc. and you have the younger talent starting out, and wanting to make a name for themselves such as Wes Craven (The Last House on the Left 1972), Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974) and with this film 'Island of Death' from Nico Mastorakis seeking to use their exploitative creations as a launch pad for bigger and better film work.
In this instance Nico confesses to having been heavily influenced by watching the cheaply made 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' as to just what you can achieve on a tiny budget.
The storyline was put together on the basis of just how much sex, violence, perversion and murder Nico could come up with for this film, which was filmed over just 18 days. The fact that, 44 years later, this film still packs a punch is testament to the director's skill as a director.
The storyline is about an English couple who arrive on the Greek island of Mykonos, and soon establish that the island is inhabited by a lot of undesirables, who have out stayed their welcome with their liberal promiscuity, and have tainted the local population of Greek islanders to the point of ruining the local custom. Thus Christopher (played by Robert Behling), and Celia (played by Jane Lyle), both amateur models at the time of being casted for the roles, give us the big reveal at the end of the film that they are actually brother and sister, (But pose as husband and wife) and decide that they need to do something about this "General lack of morality and perversion" and think nothing of eradicating the guilty parties in all manor of extreme ways.
The fact that they completely ignore their own perverted ideology during all of this orgy of sex and murder doesn't go unnoticed with the viewer, as during the build up to the numerous murders both Christopher and Celia are taking hundreds of photographs of their victims leading up to and including their deaths.
Particularly gruesome is the first killing where a painter is crucified to the ground, having been dragged around with a noose around his neck before having lime paint poured down his throat. Another scene where a mature woman entices Christopher for a bit of sexual extra curriculum activity, and who gets urinated on by him, and seemingly loving it, is badly beaten up by a disgruntled Christopher, and is taken outside where she is decapitated by a bulldozer. Another disturbing scene is where a lesbian who has sex with Celia is then set up upon by Christopher, who pours wine down her throat, then injects her with a heroin overdose before creating a mini flame thrower using a candle and an aerosol can to burn her face!
There is quite a bit of sex on display as well as rape, buggery, beastiality and many more killings to witness.
Time may have toned down some of the murderous scenes, and perhaps these are not deemed to be as graphic as some of today's special effects but, for such a low budget movie to still be around provoking controversy after all this time is quite remarkable.
Arrow have done an excellent job with this release, and have provided a separate booklet to accompany this uncut version of the film, written by film critic David Hayles. There is also an audio commentary of the film by the director and another film critic Calum Waddell, and a 2010 Q&A session with the director in Dublin celebrating (at that time)35 years since the film was made.
