WHAT DOES A MUFFLER DO?

Located under the vehicle, the muffler is a key part of a gas-powered vehicle’s exhaust system. Attached to the tailpipe, the muffler is designed to quiet the sound of the engine as emissions pass out of the vehicle. The muffler can also enhance performance by getting rid of all of the exhaust gases and taking in oxygen faster to generate power. Featuring a set of tubes with tiny holes, these tubes inside the of the muffler reflect sound waves. As the sound waves bounce around, they cancel each other out to reduce the engine noise before they’re routed out of the vehicle through the exhaust tailpipe.

ALUMINIZED VS. STAINLESS STEEL MUFFLERS

Deciding between an aluminized muffler and a stainless-steel muffler could come down to where you live and appearance. Aluminized mufflers are a good option if you live in a warm climate that doesn’t get much snow and ice. While an aluminized muffler can survive in snowy climates, road salt can cause premature rusting. This is the second one of these I have bought for my 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee. First one lasted 4 years which in Michigan where the roads are literally covered with salt 6 months out the year is quite good. Has a real nice mellow sound, throaty at idle but with NO drone at all. Makes my 4.7L Jeep actually sound cool. Those complaining about the fit seem to forget this a universal fit muffler, it was not made to just bolt in perfectly replacing the factory muffler.

I already installed the K&N 57-1514-1 Fuel Injection Performance Kit Gen2 Air Intake Kit on my 2005 TJ Wrangler, which added about 15-20% MPG to what I already had, and improved response and power. I want looking for a way to increase the savings, but I had a small budget, and didn't want something that would bother the neighbors at night. Best of both worlds here...with some slight differences and notes to mention.

This isn't the cheapest muffler, or the highest flowing in it's rice range. It's given me a little more sound from the 4.0L I6 engine, not extremely deep or throaty, but that's due to the tailpipe itself not being modified. Please note that on the Wranglers, you need to make sure the transmission is supported if you attempt to remove the skid plate to access this area. The skid plate holds it in place and it will cause severe damage and a big headache if you don't support it (I found out about this through a Jeep forum before purchasing or attempting the install).

This muffler sounds a little better, but does have a mild sound with some minor droning. The minor droning is the only reason this doesn't have a 5 star rating but it's close enough to consider it a 5 star for me I guess. That's only noticeable when driving at speeds below 30 MPH, and surprising not much of it at idle. The throttle and power are mildly improved over the stock setup, but a higher flow catalytic converter would make that jump more I believe.

The biggest improvement is to the mileage. The mileage I get is as follows:

Stock setup: 9.6-12.0 MPG City / 10.7-12.5 MPG Highway (hovering around 55-60MPH for efficiency)

With K&N Intake installed: 12.2-14.9 MPG City (24% improvement)/ 13.5-15.3 MPG Highway (14% improvement)

With Intake and Dynomax muffler: 13.9-16.1 MPG City (34% improvement over stock, 8% over Intake install) / 15.2-17.9 MPG Highway (43% improvement over stock, 17% increase over Intake install)

Consider this, the Wrangler holds 19 gallons of fuel. This meant I could originally go at most (17 X 12.5 = 213) miles, but now have a maximum range of (17 X 17.9 = 304) miles. That's an additional 91 Miles highway driving (figure about 64-68 additional city miles). Compare to the mileage, so divide by MPG, and that's a fuel savings of 5.01 gallons Highway, and 4.09 gallons City. At about (we guess low cost for this) $3.25 per gallon, this is a savings of $16.28 Highway, and $13.29 each tank of gas, compared to how many gallons you would have originally spent to drive as far. The savings literally help pay for the product and install. I actually used this to save the money I would have spent on extra gas to save for additional items for maintenance after it had offset the cost of the items themselves.

Do yourself a favor and install something like this on your vehicle, but make sure to research a little into your current specs so you are aware of how it changes the way your vehicle performs.

I bought this to replace a 2 year old flow master muffler that I hated from the moment i put it on. This Dynomax looks to be of similar quality and cost about 1/3 of what I paid for the FM. The FM was a little louder and did sound really good outside of my truck, however the drone inside it produced was horrendous. This Dynomax is very quiet inside my truck. No drone whatsoever. I can now hear myself think and carry on a conversation with a passenger. The sound outside of the truck is still aggressive over a stock muffler, and still growls if you step on the gas. Id highly recommend this muffler for anyone wanting a classier, deep, non trashy rumble. This is not for someone wanting their vehicle to be obnoxiously loud. Just a note, I installed it on my Dakota with a 4.7 V8.

I put a Dynomax cat-back system on my 2008 Ford Ranger, 2.3L 4 cyl., 5 spd., XLT Extended cab pickup. The kit came with an Ultra-Flo Dynomax stainless muffler which was fine around town. BUT, on the highway it began droning under ANY load at all ( like the gentlest change in grade or cruise control calling for more speed). The first time I heard it, I thought my differential gearing had begun to fail. It was extremely annoying and too loud to listen to music over the top of the exhaust resonance. I tried a resonator tip, baffles, etc. but to no avail at highway speeds in 5th gear. I found this Super Turbo of the exact same dimensions which allowed me to keep the rest of the system... and it is great, Slightest amount of lovely exhaust rumble way in the background of the road noise but NO DRONING AT ALL. Perfect sound and a good product.

I purchased this muffler to replace my old muffler on my 1999 Chevrolet Blazer. It was a decent price for a muffler that would sound better than stock and improve gas mileage! I put in my vehicle trim and type, and amazon said it would fit my vehicle. Well when I received the muffler I took it to my mechanic and it was over ten inches smaller than the muffler that came on my vehicle. My mechanic placed some extenders on the muffler and welded the muffler onto my vehicle. The sound wasn't increased much, but I can tell a little bit of a difference with the hp/mpg. I wish that the muffler was the correct size, but I did need a new one due to rust issues on the old muffler. I recommend this muffler to someone with a vehicle that this would correctly fit on!

Installed in place of factory quiet style, had previously run a louder magna flow which sounded great at idle and wide open, but a terrible drone at freeway speeds, and unbearable on road trips. Installed this as a compromise, wanted a classy deep throaty sound under load and semi quiet rumble during use and idle, works perfectly and definitely breathes better. Noticed immediately it is more responsive and snappy as well as love the classy rumble tone without drone and still sounds good wide open.

Installed on my 1999 tacoma 3.4 v6. Replaced a fart can the prior owner put on and this muffler sounds amazing. Has the rumble of a v8 just not obnoxiously loud. Great product.
