Product Description
Kester 44 Rosin Flux is an activated rosin formula for use in flux-cored solder wire. Kester 44 Rosin Flux has virtually dominated the field of activated rosin core solders for well over four decades. An outstanding performance feature of this flux is the "instant-action" wetting behavior. The high mobility and fast-spreading action of this flux results in more reliable production line soldering.

I bought a good iron station but I cheaped out and bought 1.5oz of Maiyum here. What a mistake. I ruined two sets of pots because I couldn't make good joints. They'd hold, but they were rough and jagged because it would literally cool as I lifted the iron. It would then be sort of waxy, which meant it stuck to the iron and the pools were never smooth as a result. It also turned grey and hazy after cooling, even after tinning the tip and turning the iron off.
I finally wised up and bought this. Yes, for the same $8 I only got half an ounce, but it was worth it. It flows instantly and consistently and while it cools quickly of course, I have enough time to completely remove the iron before it does so, so it's not sticking to the iron, which means you get nice smooth joints. It also dries shiny, the sign of a good solder joint.
The other great thing about this stuff is it doesn't have much of a smell. The Maiyum gave me headaches and I felt like I smelled like the fumes and it stunk up the house.
So do you pay more for less? Yes. But it makes soldering enjoyable and ultimately saves you money when you don't ruin parts by using crappy Chinese solder.
The picture I attached shows a tip tinned and cooled with the Kester (left) and one with the Maiyum (right). You can clearly see the difference.

I like Kester products. Their solder has never failed me. It flows beautifully and holds well. No issues. I would much rather pay a little more for something like this, than pay a little less and fight with product.
The only complaints I have heard about this solder relates to the price. Really..???? $5.95 for a tube that will last for a long time and complete several projects (well, unless you are soldering entire circuit boards or building a computer from scratch..). Frankly, I can't see the issue. I spend more than that sometimes for a cup of coffee...(and you do too if you ever stop at Starbucks or any other beanery...)...
Five stars. Excellent product. Easy to use. No issues.
Facts. I found the Kester to be very "agreeable" with both solid and stranded wiring. Excellent melting and wicking action. I will stick with this brand and may get a larger roll one day.
