Parts:
* 2 stainless steel pan head machine screws, 3/8-16 x1"
* 2 3/8 c-channel spring nuts, like Superstrut ZA1003/8EG-10
Installation:
1) Drill out the bolt holes in the mount to 3/8".
2) Shorten the springs on the spring nuts to about 1". I used a cut-off wheel in a Dremel to do this.
3) Insert 3/8" screws through the mount. Partially screw on the c-channel spring nuts.
4) Insert the c-channel spring nuts into an open end of the bed railing, then slide the entire mount assembly to the desired location.
5) Tighten.
It is possible to use standard 3/8" nuts and 3/8" fender washers instead of c-channel spring nuts, but this makes installation significantly harder.
After I got the bike block, I bought a couple of 1/4 " stainless steel machine screws (you could use stove bolts too) about 1" long and a couple of fender washers. I also added a short rectangular piece of metal with a 1/4" hole in it that would slide into the rail but long enough (about an inch) to not turn freely once inside the rail like the washers would. Then I ran a nut down tight to hold the washers and metal piece tightly together. I did this because I could not hold the bolt from turning as I tightened it to the bike block and because with the nut holding the washers tight the bolt will stick out perpendicular to the rail which made it easier to attach the block. I slid two of these bolts with washers into the rail from one end, attached the bike block to both bolts ( I positioned the block so the bolts would be on the bottom) and presto, I have a bike block that I can slide up and down the rail and can attach a bike where ever I need to. And I can leave it there and close the tonneau cover without it being in the way.
I am getting another bike block to place on the other side of the bed so I can carry two bikes. If you don't have a tonneau cover and can get to the front rail, you could carry three bikes in this size bed all attached to the front rail. Pretty neat for those who have a pick-up with a cargo rail system.
