More About Weller
Weller Manufacturing Company was founded in 1945 as a family partnership near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Over the years, manufacturers of many types of products – from televisions to washing machines – came to rely on Weller for its quality and reliability. The Weller brand has a long history of innovation. In the 1950's new technology from Weller maintained heat better while lowering energy consumption. Weller continued its innovation for years to come. Legend has it that Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak hand-soldered the circuit boards of the very first Apple computers with Weller tools.
Today, most of the manufacturing for Weller happens at one of two locations. Besigheim, Germany and Queretaro, Mexico. Virtually every major manufacturer of consumer electronics equipment uses Weller tools. Go with the brand that has stood the test of time. Happy soldering!

"...The soldering handpiece is comfortable and lightweight, very easy to manipulate...." Read more
Customers have mixed opinions about the size of the soldering station. Some mention that it's solidly built and fits the pencil very well, while others say that it is not too big and was not too expensive. The pen itself is small and lightweight and very easy to maneuver, while the tips stay in place as they set in with a long length. However, some customers say that the inch tip it came with is too big for solder chips and headers, and that the build quality and fit of the station is not impressive. The solder wand fits poorly in the holder, and the default head is too wide for small components.
"...The pencil itself is small and lightweight and very easy to manuever. The cord also wont melt with intermittent contact with the tip...." Read more
"...I found the default head too wide for small components (0201s). I purchased a new head - Weller 1/32" x 0.8 for this application...." Read more
"...Its solidly built and fits the pencil very well. The station itself is well built and comes with quality switches and controls...." Read more
"...order smaller tips, though, because the 1/16 inch tip it came with is too big for soldering chips and headers...." Read more
Customers are mixed about the power of the soldering station. Some mention that it has a high power, while others say that it stopped working. The power supply is substantial and sufficient to maintain the station. However, some customers say that the unit stopped working and that it cannot work with 220v.
"...I really like the analog dial to select the temperature. It's pretty powerful and you can easily solder bigger things with it...." Read more
"...Update 6/20/17The unit is once again malfunctioning...." Read more

Update: I've had the soldering station for almost a year now and it still works great. No complaints at all. I love the thing! Probably the best $150 I spent on my workshop! I'm still using the same tip I bought with the iron so I can say the tips for this iron have a super long life. This is the tip I originally bought for it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009VNV8O4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This tip that comes with it works ok for fine stuff but doesn't transfer enough heat for most things. For those of you who are beginners and never soldered with a soldering stating before: Do not crank the temperature all the way up. If left at that high temperature for long it will oxidize the solder tinning on the tip and eventually ruin your tip. I almost never turn the temperature of mine over 550 degrees Fahrenheit. I've found 500 degrees Fahrenheit is a good temperature for almost everything. I do turn the temperature up if I need the heat to solder something big. I just turn it back down as soon as I'm done. Keep the temperature below 550 degrees Fahrenheit and your tip will last a long time and only need re-tinned every half hour or so when just sitting idle. The cleaning sponge is still in great condition. I have shaken the solder out and then washed it a couple times. Don't make the sponge too wet as it will cool the tip too much. You just want it moist. Eventually the tip becomes oxidized and solder will not stick very well. This especially happens if you hit some plastic with the tip. The wet sponge will often not fix this. I have found in the extreme case it fixes this problem if you stab the tip into some steel wool. You don't want to do that a lot because it will take the special coating off the tip. Also do not file or use sand paper to clean the tips. It will take the coating off the tip and will ruin it.
Please mark as helpful if it was! Thanks! :)
In a word -- wow. Is it worth the extra $30 or so to have this over the other lesser offerings? Yes, very much so. It heats up VERY fast and is very stable once you have it up to temperature. It's a joy, and while the differences aren't large compared to other digitally controlled stations on the market the knob .vs. buttons is a pretty significant convenience difference (just dial it to the desired temperature instead of holding "up" or "down") -- oh and did I mention that it comes up to temp from off amazingly quickly?
I'd have liked it if Weller included a few additional tips in the package, but the cost of buying a few tips for various purposes isn't much of an additional "ask." The tip is grounded (thus ESD safe) and the provided tip fine enough for most electronic work. Get a larger tip or two if you intend to solder larger-gauge wires; it will make the job more-pleasant.
Highly recommended.
The pencil itself is small and lightweight and very easy to manuever. The cord also wont melt with intermittent contact with the tip. Comes up to temperature very quickly and reponds quickly when you adjust the temp with the control unit.
I have found a temperature around 550 works good for typical 60/40 solder on average jobs as i typically like a hotter iron. I cant imagine what I would need to solder up in the 7-800 degree range. This setup has an adjustable temp from 350-850 degrees F. This iron wont replace a 130 watt gun for the large jobs but overall definetly 5 stars. A pleasure to work with and seems to be made well with a quality feel. I'm glad I invested in getting this vs another standard pencil iron.
If your spending this much on a solderin iron you probably know how to take care of the tip but its very important otherwise it will oxidize and you wont be able to solder anything no matter how high the temperature is set. The manual doesnt go into too much detail about this but basically you want to keep the tip cleaned and tinned before and after each joint.
