Customers like the performance of the tool. They say it's very useful and works well for smaller runs to longer ones. The reel is tight, the stop works well, and the tape is just stiff. It works great for the straight segments of the wiring, but was not helpful if there was any curve. The unit is okay, but tricky to unwind. That said, it works great to pull cables through walls and doesn't bend.

The winding/unwinding function is a little confusing if you don't read the instructions.
A very inexpensive option if you're just a weekend warrior like myself doing some DIY projects around the house. I had never used fish tape before and this was very easy for my first go. It's also very compact so if you are like me and don't use it often it won't hog a bunch of space on your tool bench.
4 stars just due to the winding/unwinding function being a little complicated and unnecessary in my opinion. It would be fine without the attempt at a "semi-automatic" function if it just wheeled freely.
Don't underestimate how much of a pain it can be to rewind 50 feet of tape with a cheaper fish tape. This one's large handle is definitely a huge plus.
I bought this despite some of the bad reviews and after having used the fish tape, honestly can not even guess at how they had a problem with this simple tool...
I bought this to run flat Ethernet cable (Cat 6 Ethernet Cable 25 ft White - Jadaol Flat Ethernet Patch Cable Short- Internet Cable with Snagless Rj45 Connectors – 25 feet White) under carpet across a room that wasn't easily accessible any other way.
The very first tug to extract the fish tape made me think, 'oh boy, they were right.' I used a pair of pliers to grab the tip and pull it out a couple inches. Once it came out of the body of the reel, the tape itself unwound easily. NOT with the crank as the directions clearly say, you hold the reel with one hand and pull out the tape with the other. I'm 71 with arthritis in my fingers, this was NOT a challenge!!
Due to the thickness of the tape, I was able to push it across ~15 feet of carpet between the pad and the carpet and it followed a perfect line to the far side. Honestly, I've been stalling on doing this job because I assumed that it would be a huge hassle, but with this fish tape it was absolutely easy.
When I had the cable pulled across, I removed it from the fish tape and used the crank to wind it back up.
If anybody cares about this part, once I got that flat Ethernet cable through to both sides, I gently pulled it all the way to one side and then the other to work out any twists that might have been introduced in pulling it through.
PROS:
* Good length for running cables up/down walls, even two stories (from attic to ground floor, for example).
* The tip has a hole which allows you to use a zip-tie to attach cables.
* The crank winds the tape back in easily.
* It is small and basically does what it says.
CONS:
* This is very, very difficult to unwind. I first tried to unwind this thing in my attic but gave up. This tool needs THREE HANDS to unwind - one to hold the handle, one to hold the tool itself, and another to pull the tape out. It's a huge pain. IN the end I had to hold the tool with my legs, and use my other hands to try to unwind it. It was slow, but I finally got it. Now I unwind the unit FULLY before I plan on using it.
