    Keeps the oil cool
Mounted on my Volvo 940 turbo (B230FT/180 HP/aw03-72l automatic transmission) Had first mounted the Hayden 678, but because I regularly pull a heavy horse trailer (4000 lbs), to be sure, the Hayden 679, mounted Also because we went on holiday to the mountains in Austria, Italy and Switzerland.Connected to the return line of the original oil cooler in the radiator. From the Hayden 678, with a shortcut (see photo) reconnected to the return line. The advantage of this is that I can now easily change my transmission oil and that the oil in the original cooler and the Hayden are also refreshed. The Hayden 679 mounted in front of the condenser of the air conditioning in the flow of the radiator and radiator fan (see photo).Have NOT measured the difference in temperature, but have noticed that the automatic gearbox, under the very harsh conditions, continues to shift shock-free. Automatic has now run 186,411 miles.Longevity Hayden 679. I can't judge yet. Haven't had the cooler for that long. But the Hayden 678 still looks like new and I used it for half a year. But have full confidence in the longevity of the Hayden 679.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get significant cooler with the 679.
Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2016
If you're looking at this cooler you are probably concerned that your transmission is getting too hot. This cooler will cool it down significantly. Here's my details.
I have a 2003 Chevy Suburban 2500 with just over 100,000 miles that I recently purchased. I use it around town and tow a 4500# trailer. Recently I was towing in the Northwest hills of Connecticut and the truck's OEM transmission temp gauge showed 200 degrees, which is the highest I had seen. It usually runs around 140 when the temps are below 70 and progressively higher when the outside temperature is greater. The weather has been around 90 for a few week and I see temps of 180 or 185 without a trailer. I decide to add a cooler and seeing reviews it looked like the quality of Hayden was really good. I even called them and they were very helpful suggesting the 678. I opted of the 679 to get even more cooling.
Installing posed some options. My truck came with a factory cooler about 1/3 the size or the 679 and mounted on a plastic brace that was then mounted on an aluminum cross member just behind the grille. In order to efficiently use the OEM cooler I needed a fit kit, which my local Pep Boys carries, so I went there rather than waiting for delivery and got a Hayden kit 390 as the instructions indicated. Good thing I didn't order it, because it turns out I needed a kit 393. When I went back to Pep Boy I decided the scrap the OEM cooler and buy another Hayden 679, which wouldn't need the fit kit, and mount them next to each other. The cooler I bought at Pep Boys was made in Australia and the cooler that came from Amazon was made in Korea, but the quality appeared similar to me. Fully installed, my coolant flows from the transmission to the radiator, then to a Hayden 769 and then another Hayden 679 and back to the Transmission.
Yesterday it was 100 degrees and I took a long drive with no towing load but 6 passengers. Prior to the cooler I would expect to see 185 and the warmest the gauge showed was 150, but was running at 135 most of the time. I would say the two coolers reduced the temps by 40 degrees. Excellent results for an easy job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps my muscle car's 4L80E cool at all times
Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2018
I have a 1980 Pontiac Grand Prix. I removed the stock V6 and replaced it with a 454 big block V8, backed by a 4L80E transmission. When I did my engine swap, I also needed to upgrade the radiator (no surprise); the new one has an internal trans fluid cooler but I opted not to use it. Instead, I purchased this Hayden fluid cooler (it being the largest one I could find at 11"x11") and mounted it a couple inches in front of the A/C condenser (figuring that doing so would promote better airflow through this cooler). I have dual electric fans behind the radiator, and when they are on it seems that some air is drawn through the Hayden cooler.

I've been running with only this fluid cooler for a year and a half now. My aftermarket transmission controller (TCI EZ-TCU) monitors and displays the trans fluid temp, so I am able to know at a glance if there is any reason for concern. But even through the desert heat here in Utah, I have never seen my fluid temp go above 165^ F... ever. This large Hayden cooler does its job very well.

If you are looking for a way to reduce your automatic transmission fluid temperature, my experience says this is a great way to go. The 679 is an excellent value. I would recommend it to anyone.
