I'd seen the listing on Amazon for these 7 gallon containers. The shape is a real departure from anything I'd used before, and they hold a lot. In fact, I didn't really consider just how much heavier water has become as I've grown older. Amazon's price on these has fluctuated wildly, but I finally bought two on a "deal day" less than $50 Canadian for the pair. They arrived quickly, and on inspection it was clear that they were sturdy and well made. It was only later that I realized how much 7 gallons of water weighs, and the possible level of difficulty to lift or move a full containers. It's something to take into consideration if you're thinking about buying these. True, it's possible to fill them only 1/2 or 2/3 full, move them, and top them up. But it's a lot more work if your water source is not close to where you're storing or using them. Reliance has not skimped on quality - the construction is very strong. But depending on how and where you plan to use them - as well as your age and physical strength - these may not be ideal if "fully loaded." Replacement caps and spouts are readily available and not expensive - for the small cost, I put one replacement set in my camping gear "odds & ends" box. This stye of cap and spout is the same on all my Reliance water jugs, so having a spare seems like a good idea, especially if this water jug was gear to use on an extended trip to someplace where there's not ready access to a camping supply store or post office. I've never broken one off, but that kind of thing usually happens when getting a spare isn't convenient.
Before having this, I would walk to the nearest water source by my site every time I needed to fill a pot, kettle, or the washing tub. With this, I have a source of water at my site for cooking, cleaning, drinking, or hand-washing.
When camping as a couple, this much water sufficient for a long weekend (4 days / 3 nights). For areas with water that needs to be boiled, I can bring water from home and avoid the need to boil water for the entire stay.
When camping as a group (6 to 8 guys), this needs to be filled up almost once a day - still much more convenient than making a bunch of little treks over to the water source.
The spout works well, and precise flow control facilitates the use of minimal water when washing your hands.
The jug is BPA free. I have a sedan, and the jug can be sat upright (with the spout and air breather facing up) behind the passenger seat of my car. This position uses minimal space, and prevents water from leaking even with the jug full.
The only downfall is that the jug takes up a lot of space during the off-season. But it's worth it.
One question......Why is "warmth" a feature to rate on this product??
This is a wonderful new design. Built very well.
I prefer this rectangular type over the round style for packing purposes.
LOVE the dual handle which makes turning it sideways a breeze and is very stable.
Holds 7 Gallons and it is also BPA free.
Ours seals properly when screwed on and you can swivel the spout so that it always points down....
Spout screws in the lid for transport.
*Note that this is not designed to empty into your trailers freshwater tank...the spout would make it difficult to pour into.
We also use the older 6G ones like this (just without the 2nd handle) and they have the correct spout to fill your tank with.
