The plastic casing is not thin (something I had read in reviews for other cases). The hinges appear sturdy to me. It was easy to find a lock for the case that fit. My use for these cases is primarily storage. I have no plans to haul them to other places regularly. For my purposes of secure storage this case is excellent.
The density of the foam seemed nice to me. I noted that other cases had bad reviews on the thickness and firmness of the lining foam. This foam could have been a thicker. On the other hand, I don’t expect it break or tear as I don’t move my cases around or remove the contacts frequently.
I suspect the plastic case will stand up to jostling and frequent handling if you plan to move the case around a lot.
Nice handle, OK latches, usable foam, nice straps to hold your firearms in place and OK hard plastic. Yes, the outside case bends when not latched together, but it definitely provides protection from banging around when everything is closed. Yesssss, if a truck runs over it, the case will crunch. It could use a weather seal if it's going to sit in the rain or early morning mist, but my truck has a cover so I could care less. The size is great for my 2 shotguns, not cramped, nice to be strapped down inside and a good handle. I don't need wheels and this case doesn't have them anyway.
What this case gives me that a Pelican or Boyt doesn't is about $130.00. If I'm going to travel on the airlines all the time, I will consider one of those 2 brands, but for general purpose, this case is the best for the price, hands down! An occasional airline trip, I would consider this case but not with an optic on the firearm.
Simply put, I LIKE IT!
This case is just BARELY big enough for my two rifles. It's a double-sided case and you can only access each side one at a time. You lay the case down, open it, remove or insert your rifle, close it, flip it and repeat on the other side. I have a Ruger Mini 14 with a Nikon Optic and a Ruger 10/22 with an UltraDot optic and it's a pretty tight fit.
There's a thin plastic "grate" between the two halves with egg crate foam material so it cushions adequately and keeps the guns from slamming into one another, but it's a little tight. With one side loaded and locked, the other side is a little tricky to get closed. It's pretty tight and getting the thin plastic edges to line up is tricky. Once it's all in place, though, it clamps securely shut and stays that way until you open it up. There are several locking points on the case for anyone interested in a padlock. Personally, I don't store my guns in it. This is a transportation case.
I can carry my 10/22 with 16.5" barrel and my Mini 14 in this case and still have room for magazines or a pistol or two if I choose.
Pros:
Lightweight
Inexpensive
Plenty of Length for Long Rifles
Sturdy Handle and Hardware
Cons:
A Little Tight (Would have liked and extra inch or two on the width
Flimsy (Can make closing it tricky)
Not Airline Friendly (I wouldn't trust it to keep my guns safe from the harshness of flying)
All in all, I think this is a great case for the money. There are better cases for much more money out there, but if you need something to get you to and from the range with a couple of rifles, this will do the trick.
