This load leveler was absolutely critical in getting the engine out and back in without any extraordinary or heroic moves.
I am happy to say that the use of this device saved all of our digits and perhaps an arm or two.
The quality of the tool is top notch and I will hang it on my shop wall for use at a later date. It is likely this will be a much later date because it’s not every day that you’re replacing engines in your car. But you really do need the load leveler if you’re going to do the shade tree mechanic thing as I did.
I save money by borrowing my neighbors engine hoist. I was going to try and extract the engine using the front and loader on my tractor but there wasn’t enough overhead room.
The only complaint I have is that the chains need to be a little bit longer so that you can adjust how they reach around the engine to find the perfect lift spot.
I cannot say definitively that the use of this load leveler will increase my gas mileage on my new engine or even make me a better human being. But it did make the job much easier.
So there’s that.
I've seen reviews on some levelers where people complain about the threaded rod bending. I did not have this problem. No problems at all.
That said, my engine weighs about 300 lbs. So I'd like to see how it works with a Chevy small block v8 or something a little heavier. For the price you can't beat it though, and I bet it would hold up to a heavier engine
Update: Used this to install a 400 SBC and TH350 bolted together into a 1971 GMC pickup truck. Had no issues.
Worked great especially with the load bearings. Made quick work of the job compared to using a lesser make without the load bearings where the handle actually broke off!

I was hesitant at first when I installed motor and transmission in one shot but it worked fantastic no binding and operated smooth in all positions.
I had motor/ trans almost vertical and worked without a hitch.
Very happy I spent a little more and got a good brand name product.
I would recommend this to anyone installing just engine or engine/ trans combo

Smooth cranking action. Seems well built.
Should make future removal and installs a much easier chore.
