From the Manufacturer
This newest addition to Metro's proven DataVac line has been completely redesigned from the ground-up. It is much more compact and comfortable to use than previous models and features a new, almost unbelievably powerful 500-watt motor that literally blasts dust, dirt, and debris off expensive computer/electronic equipment to keep it running at peak efficiency. It is all metal except for the handle and attachments. It has a very industrial feel to it. The plastic handle is not flimsy. The entire device is heavy enough and strong enough to be dropped or even tossed around with no damage. I stupidly left it on a shelf one time and the cat knocked it down. It took a small chunk of wood out of the lower shelf it hit. It was my mistake to leave it up there, but I was surprised to not see a single scratch on the device.
This thing moves a ton of air, so much so that it will suck up some of the dust cloud you just got done blasting out. It includes a foam filter just for this reason. You *will* need to clean it every few times you use it. It is not readily apparent how to remove the filter. I mistakenly tried to unscrew the unit before I realized you could simply pinch the foam and pull it out, then reverse the process to put it back in. Rinse under a faucet quickly and it's good to go again.
It will get uncomfortably warm if ran for several minutes, especially with the small nozzles since the motor has to work much harder. I've never had mine get hot enough to burn skin. It's metal body is an advantage since the casing acts like a heatsink. The large plastic handle helps keep my fat sausage fingers away from the heat of the casing. If you blast it for 30 seconds to a minute then switch it off for a few seconds, it never gets too hot. Odds are likely you will never need to run it for several minutes if you are simply dusting a computer so this never really becomes an issue.
It is loud, moreso when using the small nozzle attachments or when the air filter needs cleaning. Comparatively speaking, its as loud as your average vacuum cleaner and will scare some pets.
For dusting electronics, I have found the attachments with small nozzles work best since the pressure buildup forces the air out faster and in a smaller stream. If you are looking at the pictures, the attachment with the narrow tip and straw-like end is the most useful one for this task. Most times, I detach the straw and just use the other piece. I have yet to find any use for the other nozzles, but I'm sure there are some. The larger nozzles aren't just friction fit, they have a tab to keep them secure so they don't blast off like a rocket.
It is not cordless, but the cord is 12 feet long, or 3.6 meters for everyone in the rest of the world who isn't stuck on our archaic measuring system. It is more than enough to plug in a wall and dust behind the largest of televisions and entertainment centers.
For those that do care about the manufacturer source, it is built in the USA.
I got tired of buying compressed air cans for 3 reasons 1) do not pack punch, 2) sinking costs of attritional material as you keep using them and 3) add waste as we don't know if the local waste company just dumps them into a landfill or recycles.
I read a lot of reviews of this baby, and at $60.00 price could not beat the fact that money would be recovered before the 5-year warranty expires from not buying the air cans. I have now used this tiny sucker for over 9 years and it is still running like it was brand new.
The Good:
1. Solid build quality. This thing is like an iron brick. Other than the plastic handle, everything else seems to be metal. Robust metal casing with good fixtures connecting and holding the unit tight. Even the original box that it came in feels very well made and heavy duty. The paint job on the can feels professionally done.
2. Awesome power. Depending on the connector you use, this thing generates a healthy dose of power. It can really get into the nooks and crannies of mechanical, electrical or computer devices without running out of steam. The air feels like coming from a miniature jet engine.
3. Plethora of Connectors. Depending on your usage you can use the 5 supplied connectors to really blow things off.
4. Made in the USA - "Because it Matters" that's the company tagline.
5. Nice detail showing the date of manufacture.
6. Ergonomic Handle, which lets you not feel tired from extended use.
Cons: While not really cons, I would consider them as improvements.
1. It would be good to have a cord zip tie to keep the power cord together. I am using a Velcro strap.
2. A small diameter tube, equivalent to the can air canisters would be a nice addition.
3. Heat. The unit can get hot upon frequent use, so it would be good to be safe while holding it.
4. Loudness. I am on fence, to have a powerful system the motor will emit loud noise, but I wonder a little sound deadening can help to damp the noise. But such deadening can also create a heat retention cloak preventing proper heat dissipation.
Bottom-line:
If you need to buy it, do not worry and pull the trigger. It is a good device. It will probably outlast you. Also, it supports US manufacturing, even if it is a little pricey, but the amount of money it has saved me by not using the cans, it has paid itself three times over. Also, it indirectly saves more money by not filling the landfills faster and causing your taxes to go up.

It does get warm in operation, but I have never needed to use it for more than 30sec at a go. Beware the starting torque of the 500W motor can result in you dropping it if you are not gripping the handle tightly.
A bit pricey, but then again a good quality canned air duster can set you back £15 and not last very long.
Here is a breakdown of the pros and few cons of the MetrovAC 500 Watt Electric Duster:
Pros
- Powerful and effective: This device has a strong little motor that blows a lot of clean, dry air with a surprising amount of force. Compared to a compressed air canister, which starts out strong and then weakens as you use it, the Electric Duster is an air moving powerhouse that doesn't let up. Just point it at the dust and crumbs you want to eliminate, turn it on, and watch them fly. It takes about 20 seconds to thoroughly clean out the interior of a dusty computer tower, compared to the couple of minutes it sometimes takes with canned air.
- Multiple uses: In addition to cleaning out my computer, I've also found it to be useful for cleaning the air filters in my car and the air purifier I have in my home, greatly extending the life of filters that cost quite a lot of money to replace. Any other sort of gizmo or household object that collects dust but is difficult to clean is also fair game for the duster. For example, I've used it to clean camera components, window screens, the interior of my subwoofer, the handle frames of my folding knives, and blowing dust off a fake Christmas tree that was stored under the stairs.
- Useful attachments: The Duster comes with several attachments that can be useful depending on your task at hand. For me, I've found that the nozzle that narrows to the tip is perfectly adequate for most jobs, though the crevice tool and small cleaning heads are good for cleaning out my mechanical keyboard.
- Ergonomics and design: Although it may not be the coolest looking device on the market, its design is simple and effective. The handle is large and firm, giving you excellent control over where the duster is pointed. It also has a very long cord, about 10 feet by my estimate, which is long enough to reach many outlets but not too long that it becomes cumbersome when using or storing. The base of the unit also has 3 solid plastic feet which keep it upright and level on flat surfaces, as well as providing airflow into the bottom of the unit through the air filter. When you set the duster down, you know it will stay there.
Cons and caveats
- Hot hot heat: Okay, this shouldn't be surprising, based on the power this duster has, but the unit itself gets quite hot after prolonged use. Admittedly, most jobs shouldn't take that long, but if you've got a particularly tough dusting job, you'll need to be careful not to touch the metal sides of the duster. Thankfully, the handle is large enough that it shouldn't be a problem, and you won't get serious burns even if you do touch the metal, but you should still be cautious, and definitely don't let children use it as a toy.
- Ow, my freaking ears: Speaking of this duster's power, it's motor gets surprisingly loud. Using it in a small indoor area for a significant length of time is not recommended unless you have earplugs or are like my dad and don't care about your hearing. It's not quite as bad as standing beside a central vacuum unit on full blast, but because you're generally holding it closer to your head you need to be careful. Using it outside is not quite as much of a concern. Which brings me to my final point.
- USE IT OUTSIDE: Okay, this bad boy gets the job done, but unless you want to spend more time cleaning up the dirt you've blown out, you need to use this outside on a deck or porch, or in a workshop that it is already dirty. It may take a little extra work tracking down an extension cord or lugging your massive gaming PC onto the deck, but you really need to do so in order to fully utilize the power of this device. Because it is so powerful, you also need to be careful with delicate components, so always hold it far away at first and bring it closer if required. You properly won't blast components off your motherboard, but use good judgment when dealing with expensive or fragile devices. In a perfect world, the duster would have two settings, one high and one low for more delicate jobs, but as it is you should have no trouble adjusting distance and power as needed.
Ultimately, I feel that these few concerns are easily outweighed by the positive aspects of the Electric Duster. Whether you're looking to clean out your brand new PC or blast the dust out of every crevice and cranny in your home, car, or office, the MetrovAC 500 watt Electric Duster will get the job done. Just remember to handle it with care, and protect your ears, and you'll be good to go.
