The Pressure Release Valve: Oil filters clog when exposed to excess contaminants. This clogging can restrict the flow of oil to the engine causing severe damage. The Pressure Relief Valve of a Genuine Toyota Oil Filter opens only when the filter is clogged allowing oil to flow to the engine. The valve on some non-genuine Toyota oil filters open at lower pressures, allowing unfiltered oil to the engine even when the filter is not clogged.
The Filter Element: The Toyota approved element effectively filters contaminants while meeting all Toyota Parts specifications for oil flow. By comparison, a lesser quality element may clog over time, which could lead to engine seizure or other potential engine problems. Some non-genuine Toyota oil filters do not meet Toyota’s stringent specifications.
The Anti-Drainback Valve: Genuine Toyota Oil Filters feature an Anti-Drainback Valve that prevents oil from draining out of the engine and into the oil pan. This helps protect your engine from increased wear during cold-starts.

You Can’t Go Wrong With OEM Parts!

OEM oil filters are the best! Think about it: Toyota paid a team of engineers a lot of money to design a reliable engine oil filter. I’ve had one aftermarket oil filter fail miserably after an oil change; it sprang a pinhole and dumped oil everywhere (I cut the filter open and determined there was rust inside which compromised the metal! Who knows how long it sat on the shelf. Unreal!). These OEM filters are constructed from solid materials and have never failed me. It’s money well spent and cheap insurance against engine failure due to a bad oil filter. Buying in bulk saves me money too.

As some reviewers point out, why buy aftermarket when you can find OEM at a lower price? I certainly would not pay the dealer price for this filter, but the Amazon price for a 10-pk. (including very fast and free shipping) makes a lot of sense for the DIY oil changer. I've owned only Toyotas for the past 40 years and presently have an Avalon, Corolla, and new Tacoma. I've also tried many filter brands, including some of the "snake oil" filters that claim to keep your engine healthier and happier than other brands. I'm convinced that the Toyota OEM is the best, if only because the filtering media area is much larger than that of aftermarket brands. And, AGAIN, thanks to Amazon and a few other sellers who offer these 10-pks. over the Internet, local Toyota dealers are no longer able to extract crazy excess profits from loyal owners. Another obvious benefit of this purchase is that you have up to 10-year supply of filters (synthetic oil, < 10,000 mi., 1-yr. interval). No more hunting for filter replacements. And, after installing one of these filters, there are no worries about having the correct cap wrench when it's time for the next oil change. (A bit off topic, but I strongly recommend the AST Assenmacher TOY 730 for this filter. It's cast aluminum -- not some cheap sheet metal stamping -- and it fits perfectly, with no slippage whatsoever. I believe this item is also available from Amazon.)

4/18/14 Edit: I now see that Amazon shows the Assenmacher TOY 640 oil filter socket wrench as "Frequently Bought Together" with these 90915-YZZD1 filters. Well, if you do buy this cap wrench, please be advised that, IT WILL NOT FIT this filter. Again, it is the Assenmacher TOY 730 that fits this filter -- and it fits perfectly.

This is a game changer DIY’ers! I use to buy K&N and Fram but not anymore. This fits and runs beautifully for my 2005 Toyota Highlander AWD with 195k miles. The K&N oil filter wasn’t just working fast enough with the VVTI. I did an early oil change at 2k miles just to see that difference. Oh boy, it sure did. I’m so happy I bought the 10count and will be a happy camper.
