CURT Weight Distribution Hitches
The CURT weight distribution hitch is a specialized towing system that provides improved vehicle and trailer control by leveling the trailer and more evenly distributing its weight across the vehicle's axles. Weight distribution hitches are commonly used on RVs but can also be applied to other large loads.
CURT weight distribution hitches come with a 2 x 2-inch shank and are compatible with class 3, 4 and 5 trailer hitches, including our Xtra Duty and Commercial Duty, as well as some RV trailer hitches. While a weight distribution hitch will increase the gross trailer weight capacity of most trailer hitches, the vehicle's weight carrying capacity must be taken into consideration before towing a heavier trailer.
Advantages of CURT weight distribution
- Heavy-duty steel heads
- 2" x 2" adjustable shank with 2-1/2" option
- Trunnion bar and round bar weight distribution hitches available
- Forged steel spring bars
- Durable black powder coat finish
Increased safety for heavy loads
CURT weight distribution hitches are designed to create a level ride across your tow vehicle and trailer. This is done by equalizing or distributing the tongue weight of the trailer more evenly onto the vehicle’s axles. CURT weight distribution hitches use steel spring bars to pry or lift up on the back end of the vehicle and move more of the trailer’s tongue weight to the front axle and rear trailer axle. While a tow vehicle’s back end might sit several inches lower with a heavy trailer, with a weight distribution hitch properly installed, this height difference is reduced and distributed across the entire vehicle-trailer combination.
Heavy-duty construction and a quality finish
CURT weight distribution hitches feature heavy-duty, cast heads and forged steel spring bars – both of which are highly adjustable to achieve the exact weight distribution necessary. To make sure our weight distribution hitches are worthy of carrying the CURT name, we coat each one in a durable powder coat finish, giving them great resilience to rust and scratches. Our weight distribution hitches are made from quality steel and comprised of expertly engineered components. From the formed hitch head, to the spring bars, to the hookup brackets and even our replacement parts, we invest our utmost quality for your satisfaction.
Multiple options to fit your towing setup
CURT weight distribution hitches come with 2 x 2-inch shanks to fit receiver-style trailer hitches of classes 3, 4 and 5. We also offer replacement weight distribution shanks in both 2 x 2-inch and 2-1/2-inch x 2-1/2-inch. CURT weight-distributing hitches are available in two styles – round bar and trunnion bar – referring to the types of spring bars used by each style. A round bar weight distribution hitch uses round spring bars attached to the underside of the weight distribution hitch head, and a trunnion bar weight distribution hitch uses square bars mounted at the face of the hitch head.
Product Description
The CURT weight distribution hitch is a specialized towing system that provides improved vehicle and trailer control by leveling the trailer and more evenly distributing its tongue weight across the trailer's and vehicle's axles. Weight distribution hitches are commonly used on travel trailers and campers but can also be applied to other large loads. CURT WD hitches come with a 2" x 2" shank and are compatible with class 3, 4 and most 5 trailer hitches, including Xtra Duty and Commercial Duty (2-1/2" replacement WD shank may be required), as well as some RV trailer hitches. While a weight distribution hitch will increase the gross trailer weight capacity of most trailer hitches, the vehicle's weight carrying capacity must be taken into consideration before towing a heavier trailer (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). This round bar weight distribution hitch features a heavy-duty formed head and round spring bars constructed from forged steel. It offers a gross trailer weight capacity up to 14,000 lbs. and a tongue weight capacity of 1,400 lbs. It also includes hook-up brackets, spring bar safety chains and a pin and clip. To protect this hitch from scratching, chipping, rust and UV damage, it also comes with a durable black powder coat finish. A trailer ball must be purchased separately.

I also purchased CURT 40030 2-5/16 In. Diameter Chrome Trailer Ball as the tow ball and Connor Towing 1615290- NEW Stainless Steel 5/8" Receiver Lock for Class III, IV, V to secure it to the car since it's worth a bit of money and the standard pin can be removed easily. It's not going to be theft proof... but it's less of an easy target.
THIS DOES NOT COME WITH THE 2 5/16 BALL!
-the adjustable shank bar
-the pipe handle
-Bolt 5/8" - 11x1 1/2" long
-Hex bolt 3/4" - 10x5" long (two of them)
-Conical washer 3/4" (four of them)
-Nylock nut 3/4"-10 (two of them)
-Hitch pin 5/8" x 3" long
-Clip
-Bolt 1/2" - 13x2" (two of them)
-Bolt 1/2" - 13x4" (two of them)
-Clip for snap up bracket (two of them)
-Pin (four of them)
-Flat Washer 1/2" (seven of them)
On top of that, the box looks like it had gone through a car wash. It was almost disintegrated and was being held together with packing tape.
Highly disappointed! The company needs to fix this.
I didn't need the wings on this (side holes for stabilizer shocks) and they actually cause problems for my trailer. The tongue on my trailer is short and when I jacknife the trailer too much the wing binds on the frame of the trailer (way before the trailer is close to the bumper. I think I have to cut off the wings (I don't use stabilizer shocks anyway).
I would have rather had an option for no wings.
