About this item
- All-terrain, any-weather rugged capability
- Heat diffuser technology in the lower sidewall dissipates heat to protect the internal tire components. Keeping this critical area of the tire cool ensures vehicle stability even when towing or carrying heavy loads.
- 3D Canyon sipe technology interlocks the shoulders to resist wear from high torque as well as providing additional handling stability.
- Rugged and rigid tread blocks feature support ramps and step-down features that provide tread-pattern rigidity in the contact patch, enhancing vehicle stability and handling while also preventing stones from becoming trapped in the grooves.
- Aggressive upper sidewall along with offset shoulder blocks protect the tire from sharp rocks and provide additional off-road traction at low tire pressures or in off-camber situations.

The cold wet traction, deep snow, and ice traction are superior to the Cooper Discovery AT3 and Bridgestone Dueler AT RHs tires for sure. This tire is a certified snow tire with a snowflake stamp. It really shows. They go great thanks to aggressive lugs and sipes.
They are overkill for commuting, but they do quite well anyway. They ride very well. Road noise is low-moderate, about what you would expect from looking at the big meaty tread. Every tire seems loud in a Tacoma, so I don't mind, but perhaps someone else might.
Though it doesn't help performance, they do look super cool!
I have no experience in mud, sand, dirt, or rocks yet, as everything is covered in deep snow right now, but looking at the very good deep snow traction, I expect they will work well in mud as well.
They are very heavy, up to 10 pounds heavier than many other tires they compete with. I expect it's in the sidewall construction, and I hope this translates to good durability and puncture resistance.
I cannot comment on tread life as I have only had them on the truck for a few weeks.
My first pair of Falken tires, and I am excited about them.
I went through three sets of BFG AT KO tires over the course of about 200k miles but I wanted something new. The BFG tires were okay but they always made driving in the rain a white knuckle experience. They would almost always spin with even the lightest foot on the gas and clutch when taking off on wet pavement. They'd quite frequently break loose again when shifting into second gear. There was also the feeling that I was about to hydroplane while driving on the freeway in the rain too.
I decided to take a shot on something else when I needed tires back in October. After doing a lot of reading, I settled on the Falken Wildpeak AT3W. I went through one of the wettest winters that we've seen here in Southern California in years with these tires and they really impressed me. They never once broke loose on wet pavement (even with a heavier foot on the gas) and I never once felt like I was about to hydroplane. As an added bonus, they were about $80 less per tire than I had paid for my last set of BFG AT KOs.
The extent of the off road use that my Falkens have seen so far has been dirt roads in and around the local forest and our nearby desert. Under those conditions, I have no complaints. The tires performed well, gripping the terrain and never losing traction.
The Falkens are ever so slighly louder than the BFG AT KO on pavement but you really don't notice unless you're listening for it. I have a feeling that they won't last quite as long as my previous BFGs but considering the price difference, I'm okay with that.
Also, even though the Falken Wildpeak AT3W is supposedly the same 265/70R16 size as my BFG AT KOs, they are actually about a half inch wider. The right front was rubbing near full lock when turning right. I had a local shop install Bilstein 5100 Series Height Adjustable shocks on the middle notch to lift the front end about 1.5 inches. The truck looks level now and the tire no longer rubs.
