ADS-MRR Maestro RR - Universal Radio Replacement & SWI and the Toyota accessory kit T01 iDatalink Maestro ADS-HRN-RR-TO1 TO1 Plug & Play T-Harness for Toyota Vehicles along with a Black Metra Double Din faceplate kit Metra 95-8214TB Double DIN Dash Kit for Toyota Tacoma 2005-2011 Vehicle (Black) . This review isn't about the Maestro stuff, otherwise the review would be lower based on the diagrams and instructions. The radio performs excellently in the truck. The sound is definitely clearer, but it did take some adjustments with the built in EQ to get it how I liked it... but that was after 7 years of getting used to the JBL out-of-the-box sound. I'd buy it again for sure. The AndroidAuto interface is awesome. The navigation has a few differences from my old Garmin standalone, but now that I'm used to it I think it's better. I bought this because my wife got a new GMC Terrain that is all computerized with touch screen interface a while back and it had me itching to get a new truck as well. This unit is so much better than the built in unit in hers. It even displays vehicle information that I had no idea my truck even tracked (exact tire pressure, RPMs, manifold temp, load, etc). I'm good to go now for another 7 years without a payment. :-)
The only two things about this radio that I don't like are related to volume controls. 1) I would like to have a spinning style knob for volume. The push button is OK, and I mostly use my steering wheel controls, but there's just something I miss about it's quick access and feel of the spinner. 2) When you turn the volume up or down a UI volume indicator pops up at the bottom and stays there for a few seconds. It hides the options underneath of it while its up so you have to wait for it to disappear before you can get to them. My thought is that this is a big screen so the volume could have its own permanent space.
1. My external amp would not power on from the blue/white remote turn on signal from the head unit. The installation manual states that wire puts out 12V at 300 mA. However, I used a volt meter and it was only putting out 278 mA at the external amplifier ( a JL Audio 300-4v2). The amplifier wouldn't turn on. I bypassed the blue turn-on remote signal with a switched/IGN 12 V source and the amplifier turned-on fine. The head unit I replaced with this unit (a Kenwood DNX-7140) puts out 500mA on the blue/white stripe external amp signal wire and had no problem turning on the external JL amplifier. I had no issues with the amp turning-on from the Kenwood over the last 5 years. Pioneer should address this issue and put out 500mA over the wire.
2. When connecting an iPod (iPod classic 6th generation, 160GB) via the Pioneer CD-IU201V, I can play audio and control the iPod from the head unit, but I cannot play videos from the iPod. The video should be traveling over the AUX input, but I cannot confirm this. Regardless, I can access the video folder from the headunit. I can see my video playlists. I can play a video, but I only hear the audio from the video -- no video (black screen). Again, my older Kenwood DNX-7140 had no problems playing audio or video from the same playlists and same exact iPod days earlier.
***UPDATE 5-31-2017*** The external amp signal wire was my fault. I rechecked my wiring and my solder connection had broken. Once I fixed that problem the head unit blue ext amp turn on signal worked fine to turn on my external amplifier. Also, the iPod video playing issue may be related to the fact that my connection cable seems to be a "knock-off." The original Pioneer cable is like $100 or something ridiculous. I paid like $20, so my cable may not be legitimate Pioneer, even though it looks the same. Like I said, all audio plays fine, ipod control is fine, album art, etc is fine. . . it's just the video. But if I use an ipod touch with lightning connection, it plays video fine. So, I think the issue is with non-lightning interface iPods w/ video over my likely counterfeit cable. Otherwise, it's been a great head unit.

Few small critiques that I wont have effect the rating (this is still top in class despite my small issues with it):
1) is when you adjust volume it pops up a very large UI for a few seconds. This covers the home button in apple carplay. The UI probably doesn't need to be so large, does it?
2) Really a pain in the butt that only one USB works for carplay and the other works for android auto. Some cars only have one good spot to put a USB port, in my case I had to buy another thing to install in the car to expose another one. Not ideal.
