No, the Front Header Bed Rail is optional. However it is recommended for the best fit of the cargo net.

Without the header rail the included carabiners can be utilized to attach to the D-Rings located at the front of the truck bed.

This elastic net is well done. It adjust to your truck cargo. sturdy, not fragile. Squares are not small, not large.
diameter on the elastic is about 3/16 of an inch ( a little bit less) . super easy to install. it is important to understand that this kind of elastic nets are just to "hold" the cargo inside the truck box. Avoid light objects to ricochet out of it. it is sturdy , but not strong enough to secure, block or brace any heavy cargo. It might brake. nylon straps or nylon cords need to be used for heavy stuff.

This product blew me away. The first thing I noticed when I opened the package was how thick and strong the net itself was. It seems to be very high quality.

The next thing I noticed was the red sleeves on the net indicating where the corners are. It's super handy and makes it easy to know where the corners are. Taconets included carabiners for the four corner D ring attachment points in my 3rd gen bed.

Last but not least, and the reason I bought this net, are the attachment hooks! They fit perfect in the bed rails and make other bed nets look like a joke. I previously installed the third bed rail on the front of my bed so I can utilize all the attachment hooks provided. I highly recommend adding the third bed rail (2nd gen Tacoma bed rails can be installed on the 3rd gen).

I expected this product to be awesome and it's even better than I'd hoped. Thank you Chuck and Kristin!

Pros: The clips are easy to put in and take out of the rail of my Tacoma. There are more than enough clips for what I need. The size is also perfect.
Cons: I broke 3 of the clips the first time I used it. Just by accidentally bumping then. The clips are not really all that durable, but there are more than I need, and if you're a little careful, they are fine.
Overall, it's a good net, and I'm satisfied...I would buy it again.
