Product Description

AUTO-VOX is a professional manufacturer of automobile accessory for over 10 years.

Why choose us?
There are
three factors you need to consider while choosing a car rear view camera at Amazon.

First,the
water-proof. Reading the one-star review of Amazon, you will know whether the rear view camera is what you want. Due to the strict quality control system of Cam1, you absolutely don't need to worry about exposing it outside the car even in rainy day.The water-proof of Cam1 is up to IP68, which is much better than the IP67 or claimed to be IP68.

Second,the
resolution, which is measured in TV lines (TVL). The TVL of Cam1 is up to 900TVL.For the different output format, the Cam1 output is 480TVL.But is much more clear than the other brand camera whose original resolution is 480TVL.

Third,the
size of image sensor. Equipped with 1/3 inches high sensitive CMOS.This high configuration of Cam1 will make the picture more clear and have better performances of night vision.

Note: Asking for assistance from experienced technician if you are not familiar with the installation of it.

Great for hitching to a trailer!
I've been constantly searching for a backup camera that doesn't involve 1) Drilling a hole to mount, or 2) Covering the "Texas" on my license plate, as I've heard that's illegal. This camera fits the bill, and WOW does it look good! I have it hooked up to my Pioneer AVH-X2800BS and the video feed is fantastic. I've been in a new VW Tiguan and Volvo XC70, and the video is better than both of those OEM solutions.I use this to assist me in backing up to my travel trailer, and it has literally removed the need for a helper. Mounting right above the license plate is the PERFECT location for seeing the hitch ball and backing up straightly to the hitch. I've done it three times so far, and gotten it perfectly aligned on each try. No second guessing. Also, the tailgate does not hit the camera when it's extended. The only con to this camera is that you can't power it up with the radio ACC line (for viewing while driving forward), because at night the LED's would turn on and blind drivers behind you. That's not such a big deal for me, as I rarely want to do that, but it's good to know for those who want to use a backup camera even when not in reverse. The video quality is also a bit grainy/noisy at night, but it's still usable.Installation was easy - just tedious, zip tying the wires to various places underneath the truck to make sure it was nice and out of the way. I ran it into the cab underneath the passenger seat, where I also ran the power cable for my stereo amplifier.TL;DRThe camera looks very "OEM," and the picture is fantastic. Only downsides are no camera viewing with ACC wire, and grainy night video. For the price, it's a STEAL!

Such a nice, inexpensive front/back-up cam!

I've been doing a complete overhaul of my 1994 Honda Accord's interior and wanted to top it all of with a backup camera as I'd never had one and all my interior panels were off anyway so why not just run one more wire?!

I had purchased a different camera before this one and I was so disappointed at the installation process - it wasn't one wire for the old camera it was two. The video and another line to the head unit's reverse trigger. Oh well, live and learn.

The video quality on the old camera was terrible so even though I knew it would be more work and money I went hunting for a better camera... and then I found this one.

I wasn't sure about the custom power connector this camera has as it was different from what I had already installed and I wanted to try and use the existing wire from the old camera, but I love it! I had the old camera attached to the license plate and the video/power cables running up through the license plate light fixture - not an ideal way to get the cables into my car, but it worked.

With the small thin custom connector, I was able to drill a very tiny hole right above the license plate between the two plate lights and it looks so much much better without the risk of cracking the plastic light fixture I was going through. The hole was so easy and small just took a little squirt of clear weather proof silicone and done!

I also like how this camera has a much lower profile since most of it mounts behind your plate.

Install was super easy using the video, power and reverse line to the head unit I had already installed, but how freaking sweet that they included this reverse wire! Had I of gotten this camera first, I'd of not had to run that extra wire.

I love how they give you the option of having the reverse grid on or off. I get why it's a wire and not a switch. Once installed typically you just leave it alone. I'm going to get another one for the front of my car and will cut the wire so I don't have the grid lines.

Perhaps the most important thing is the video quality which is superb! It has a great field of view and really there is no real reason to turn my head to look behind me, but old habits are hard to break.

Overall it's a very nice back-up cam!

Installed mostly as directed in 1 2007 F-150 SuperCrew cab. Made some mods on-the-fly and so far/so good.

The Camera itself may indeed be waterproof (Its held up fine to some heavy rain and the car wash so far) but the mid-point connector contains a small circuit board and it is definitely not waterproof. You can see right in to the side of it. To install this on a pickup truck with an open bed this mid-point connector should meet up with the main lead from the dash somewhere near the spare tire location under the truck.

I chose to run a piece of 1/2" Liquidtight conduit (the yellow RCA end of the kit will fit through this, along with a piece of CAT5 for future needs if so desired) from my entry/exit point at the back of the cab where my main power for stereo amps comes in to a gray 4x4x4" junction box. I installed another 4x4x2" gray junction box at the rear on the inward face of the truck frame. I let my spare tire down to get at a good spot for it. Because I didn't get a truly water tight exit point for the wires leaving towards the bumper, I drilled a small weep-hole in the bottom of the junction box and another in the top to act as a vent for condensation. This makes it pretty well splash-proof, but if I ever completely submerge the rear of the truck it will fill with water and probably be ruined, but not ruined as fast as leaving this exposed to water/grime/salt etc under the truck or wrapping it in a bag to die from condensation.

As for the hookups, I ran a fresh frame ground with some heavier gauge wire into the aforementioned junction box and spliced onto it inside there. The positive wire was plenty long enough to reach to the factory wiring bundle to the passenger tail light that comes across behind the license plate. I used a blue wire tap there as the final connection for the system and luckily I checked it then, before putting my spare tire back in. The tap didn't cut far enough into the red wire to get a connection. I pulled it back apart and stripped the red wire back about a half inch and let that fold alongside when I re-inserted it into the wire tap. It got a good bite then and the system came right up.

PRO - Cheap. Nice image quality. Fairly easy install (but designed for the wiring and connectors to all be inside a vehicle, protected and dry)

CON - Had to figure out a way to protect its components under a truck myself as I went, which added some time and expense. Image at night grainy, but much better than not seeing anything for sure.

NOTE : As others have encountered, the unit gets power when the source wire gets +12v (as in when your reverse lights come on) so if your head unit has a function to view camera at-will any time, it won't work unless you have that +12v lead connected to something that is energized at that time. So you either add another switch and wire to energize the camera when you want it, or you wire it to something that comes on with the ignition, or add a relay to the amplifier remote which will make it come on and stay on with the stereo. Then you would have to go into the menu of the stereo and set the camera not to trigger the display or disconnect that trigger lead, and use the manual button when you want to back up instead of it being automatic from going into reverse. Apparently no perfect solution to make every little thing work together every which way possible, that I can see so far anyway. Wiring it to get +12v from two different sources would involve another relay of some sort to isolate them or else you would be bucking through and turning on your back up lights and energizing all the rest of that circuit from the load side every time you turned the camera on. I wouldn't advise doing that.

Good Luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Replaced OEM camera with CAM1. Exceeded expectations.
Reviewed in Canada on March 7, 2017
I used this camera to replace a backup camera in my Santa Fe Sport. The OEM camera allowed water inside over time and corroded. Hyundai charges over $200 USD to replace it so instead I bought the Auto-Vox CAM1 for a fraction of the price and wired it into my OEM system.

The CAM1 works perfectly with my OEM head-unit. Picture quality is just as good or better than the OEM camera, plus it's better position (dead-center) and provides superior vision in the dark

The image from the camera is mirrored like the OEM camera, and you have the option of turning on parking guidelines or leaving them off (default). The plastic module on the cable has a spot for a switch to enable/disable image mirroring but it's empty, so if you don't want the image mirrored then you might be out of luck. Fortunately the OEM system was mirrored so this felt normal.

If you'll be replacing an OEM camera like I did, you'll be happy to know it's very simple to do. I opened the plastic module on the cable and desoldered the wires meant to be run into the vehicle. In their place I soldered the OEM wires. My vehicle had a white wire as well as the red, black, and yellow, but I simply didn't connect it and things work perfectly.

If I ever had to replace my camera again I would buy another one of these in a heartbeat. If I had a vehicle that didn't come with a camera, I'd probably buy the camera + the mirror.

I have yet again impressed by the quality and price offered by auto-vox in their car gadget offerings. I have recently replace the center console on my 15 years old van and the console offers a plug for camera input. So i started search for rear view backup camera on amazon and this is the first product that I found to have a great price. Based on my past experience with AUTO-VOX products I didn't even hesitate to order this camera right away. The camera was packaged in a well designed retail packaging unlike the other chinese knock-off from ebay I have seen people order online. The camera itself if mounted on a piece of quality metal plate and can easily be mounted behind the license plate without showing too much. The camera itself is IP68 rated, that means it is water and dust proof. This way you don't have to worry about rainy days and all the muds you drive through. The camera will survive and offer you the view you want to see when you are backing up the car. One important thing to notice is that this is camera only, this product does not come with a monitor, you might have to purchase the monitor separately if you don't have a center console that offers a screen with camera input. Another good thing about this product is that it is very easy to install and hide the wires if you follow the manual step by step. The camera also has LED attached to it so that you don't have to worry about by lighting in dark environment. They are bright enough to light up at trail behind you LOL.

Overall an good camera and provides an excellent picture quality. This was my main concern, is having a good picture, which this camera most definitely delivered.
The two minor issues I did have, were one of the yellow connectors breaking, and the fact the the camera's position doesn't capture a part of the rear bumper which would have made it easier to back up.
