I don’t even have to take off my bed cover but I do have a six foot bed. I think trying to carry more than four full suspension MTBs might be a little tight though. Only complaint is that you could remove it from my truck with little issues at the trail head. I lock the trail gate to make it tough but how do you really secure this thing? Still happy with it and better than a conventional hitch rack. It’s unaffected by tire width, I’ve got bikes with tires ranging from 1.9 to 3.0 no trouble carrying any.

I don’t think I could ever fit 5 bikes on it but it carries three MTB’s just fine if you take the front wheel off of the center one. Works great in my 2018 Honda Ridgeline. Leave the buckles connected and you can just slide it off with the tailgate hinged. Don’t be jealous non-Ridgeline owners. We know you have Honda Envy. I still use a ratcheting strap to hold onto the back of the bikes but that’s no big deal. Well worth it and I can still use my bed without disassembling a big bulky frame.

I was looking into the best way to transport mountain bikes for me and my son. There are some really expensive options that are difficult to take on and off a vehicle. I purchased the Medium (5 bike) for my 2021 Toyota Tundra. Perfect fit. I wasn't thinking about length when I ordered it, I just thought I would never need a 6 bike capacity. Glad I got Medium; the Large would definately have been too big. I can install it about 2 min once I figured out to rest tail gate against my body at a 45 degree angle. I could then run the strap up through the opening and then pull through the "buckle". Three simple straps, then I go back and tighten them up. It takes about 30 seconds to set the bike and they don't move. At least the mountain bikes don't. They stayed verticle even going down dirt roads with some bumps. When we get home, I can have the bikes off and the tailgate protector rack off and stored in about 5 min. Great product.

Initially, I was looking for an in-bed mounting system for multiple bikes. We have a 2017 Honda Ridgeline that has a relatively short bed and a roll up-type cover. Because of the short bed, I’d have to leave the tailgate down when transporting the bikes, and there are only a few options that would allow me to continue using the roll-type cover when I’m not hauling the bikes. Our local bike shop (Faast Cycles), suggested an over the gate mount. I hadn’t seen this type of system in my original search. This is great! Easy to install/remove, and holds our 3 mountain bike securely. It’s very lightweight, but is well padded and sturdy. The soft underside is gentle on the paint and the canvas-like exterior appears to be rugged enough to handle the elements.

Easy to put on and adjust on our Toyota Tacoma. This holds two bikes for us and our bikes stay upright and don’t fall over. One of the bikes is an e-bike so the strap isn’t long enough to go around the fat front part where the battery goes so I just use a short bungee cord to strap it the Velcro strap that’s on the tailgate pad (My fault for not reading the strap length that holds the bike). I can probably add a longer Velcro strap to the existing piece. It protects the truck gate from scratches and the front Bike wheels. The other big plus is the large back flap can be lifted so we can use our back up camera when backing into a camping spot. Easy to take off and store since it’s flat.

I have an Electra Townie Path Step Through 27D. It's just a tad too long to fit in the bed of my 1997 Nissan Pickup.

What to do, what to do? I definitely don't want to take the front wheel off to get it to fit (which is a royal pain), which would mean drilling into the bed to attach a clamp for the front fork.

I looked a other cheaper tailgate pads and then I saw this one. The velcro straps are beefier and super strong. The padding is thick and protects my bike as well as my tailgate. I do use tie-down straps to stabilize the back of my bike. I don't see how you could use any tailgate pad without doing so.
