Product Description
OBDLink MX+ is a one-of-a-kind wireless OBD adapter that transforms any iPhone, iPad, or Android device into a professional-grade diagnostic scan tool, trip computer, and real-time performance monitor capable of accessing manufacturer-specific vehicle data.
The newest addition to the OBDLink family is even faster, more reliable, and more feature-rich than its predecessors.
It is the only wireless iOS-compatible scan tool on the market that supports the proprietary GM-LAN and Ford MS-CAN vehicle networks, giving you access to dozens of additional ECUs and thousands of manufacturer-specific trouble codes and parameters, including ABS, SRS, TPMS, A/C, transmission temperature, and wheel speeds.
While there are other solutions capable of displaying real-time data, OBDLink MX+ is optimized for maximum throughput, delivering up to four times more data samples per second than the closest competitor. This translates into smoother gauges and graphs, and the ability to simultaneously display multiple parameters.
OBDLink MX+ incorporates features not found in competing adapters that make it safe to leave plugged in: hacker-proof wireless security, overvoltage/load dump protection and ultra-low-current sleep mode. For added peace of mind, MX+ comes with free firmware upgrades and free technical support.
Why should you choose MX+?
- Enhanced Diagnostics: read (and clear) manufacturer-specific codes and access live parameters on a wide range of Ford, GM, Mazda, Nissan and Toyota vehicles
- GM-LAN and Ford MS-CAN: read and clear trouble codes from ECUs on proprietary vehicle networks that are off limits to BlueDriver and FIXD
- Unmatched performance: MX+ is 300% faster than the closest competitor — display multiple live parameters and enjoy smooth gauges & graphs
- Dozens of compatible apps, and more added all the time!
- Intelligent sleep mode: plug it in, and forget about it — it won't drain your car's battery
- Hacker-proof: unique security mechanism eliminates the risk of unauthorized access
- Rock-solid connection: no dropped packets, no gaps in the data
OBDLink MX+, Bluetooth OBD2 Scanner and Vehicle Performance Monitor

MORE COVERAGEOBDLink MX+ works with all 1996 and newer cars and light trucks sold in the United States (except hybrid or electric vehicles). The OBDLink proprietary connection algorithm enables MX+ to connect to more makes and models than any other scan tool. It also supports EOBD, JOBD, and all other international variants of OBD-II. Read and clear codes on all OBD-compliant vehicles, NO EXCEPTIONS. |
MORE FEATURESOBDLink MX+'s functionality is limited only by the imagination of the programmers that write the apps. Apps that exist on the market today, can be used to:
|
MORE SECUREUnlike other OBD adapters, MX+ does not use an easy-to-guess PIN and requires physical access for the initial pairing. It doesn't broadcast its presence and employs strong encryption — sensible precautions to keep hackers out of your vehicle's network. |
MORE APPS
OBDLink MX+ works with dozens of popular third-party apps like Torque, Dash, FORScan, DashCommand, obdCANex and Harry's Lap Timer to unlock enhanced performance, save fuel, change vehicle settings and even control door locks and remotely start the engine on select vehicles.
Note: many apps are currently available exclusively on Android; check with app provider to confirm compatibility.
MORE DATA
OBDLink MX+ supports GM-LAN and Ford-MSC proprietary vehicle networks that provide access to thousands of additional parameters that are off-limits to all other wireless OBD scanners, including BlueDriver and FIXD.
With third party apps, you can enable convenience features (including remote start and door lock/unlock) and change configuration on select models.
MORE RELIABLE
When you turn off your engine, OBDLink MX+ goes to sleep and won't drain your automobile's battery. Its sophisticated triggers will wake up MX+ when you connect via Bluetooth, unlock doors, or crank the engine.
MX+ includes overvoltage/load dump protection, a feature critical for any OBD device that is designed to be powered from the vehicle's 12-volt system.

I bought this tool as my Carista OBD2 adapter did not have the capabilities to access all of the data buses in my wife's 2013 Ford Fusion. Using the Bluetooth MX+ with the Forscan software (using free 2 month license) loaded on a laptop, I was able to get into all of the high speed and low speed buses in the Ford (CAN, CAN2, CAN3, etc.). I needed to program up some "dealer only" accessible features as well as program a used Ford radio/ACM that I had installed to replace the failed original radio. To do this, I needed to download the "As Built List" from Ford website (enter VIN) for the original radio and copy the hexadecimal configuration data into the used radio. The MX+ with the Forscan software worked flawlessly.
Next, my 2006 Chevy Avalanche airbag trouble light set so I used the MX+ (with the OBDLink app loaded on my iPhone 11) to diagnose which crash sensor had triggered the trouble code. Matching the DTC code read by the MX+ with what was in my GM Service manual, I was able to diagnose down to the exact sensor that needed to be replaced. My only complaint here is that the description provided in the OBDLink app did not match what was in the service manual. For instance, DTC B0101 was set. The app displayed this as "Electronic Front End Sensor 1 Performance" (which is really DTC B0100 in the manual). DTC B0101 in the manual is "Discard Electronic Front End Sensor 1". Since these are expensive sensors ($200+ for the GM version), I decided to swap the two front crash sensors to confirm that the problem followed the sensor. When I did this, the MX+ read out DTC B0104 "Electronic Front End Sensor 2" although the description in the manual shows this as "Discard Electronic Front End Sensor 2". So in any case, the MX+ with OBDLink app was able to confirm that the sensor was in fact defective. I trust the DTC code that was read out but not the description.
Next, my factory Navigation built into the radio in my Avalanche has not been working. The MX+ captured a DTC code from the radio indicating that GPS had failed. I will leave it to another time to diagnose but its amazing how many systems in the vehicle that the MX+ has access to.
I use the Carista application on my phone to make "dealer only" changes to my 2020 Prius Prime. As the MX+ is listed as compatible with this app, I know the next time I need to make changes, I will be using the MX+ instead of the Carista OBD2 adapter (assuming there are no hardware issues), but I have not yet tested this.
Overall, the price appeared high compared to other OBD adapters. However, when I take into consideration that I paid hundreds of dollars over 10 years ago for an Auto X-ray reader kit (and this is nothing more than a paper weight now since the manufacturer went out of business and the firmware is no longer updated), the $100 price paid for the MX+ does not seem bad. I just hope these folks stay in business so that they can continue to provide updates.
I definitely recommend the OBDLink MX+ OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner.
The good part of this software is that it is amazingly configurable and capable. It even lets me do stuff I shouldn't do, like feed codes back into my ECU.
You can put graphic monitoring consoles together for smart phones and PCs. Various gauge graphics are available, and you can size them and place them wherever you'd like. The software even lets you put in virtual buttons that will perform an action when pressed. Very powerful.
This OBD2 adapter doesn't seem to allow you to readily diagnose issues, other than finding out what the code is and then clearing it. I have another OBD2 tool that is much better at diagnostics, and that one comes with live support. The MX+ and my other OBD2 adapter are definitely not duplicates. Each does something different, and this MX+ does exactly what I was looking for, despite my complaint about the inadequacies of their software.
The MX+ also allows you to use 3rd party software, and I might try that to figure out which PIDS are operating.
The hardware and software package are a tad expensive, and the value of these will be determined by the support I get from the manufacturer. Reading codes, clearing codes, big deal. Every adapter I know of, including $20 adapters can do that. What makes this more expensive is:
A) Performance of adapter. It's fast and goes to sleep automatically when the vehicle is off. It also prevents nearby users from connecting to the MX+ when unauthorized.
B) Extensive PID support.
C) Ability to program ECU.
D) Included full-featured software.
E) Ability to use 3rd party software.
F) Comes with a snazzy little carrying case. I don't care about such a case, but I read reviews where others complained they didn't get one. I don't need one. The MX+ is dedicated to a single vehicle.
If you just want simple functionality, the MX+ is probably overkill. It is not overkill for me. I just wish it was 25% cheaper.
I do recommend this code reader for the advanced DIYer who just "pull" trouble codes without the hassle of going to your mechanic.
Top reviews from other countries
But, ultra-low power draw during sleep and the compatibility with third-party Apps made OBDLink MX+ the winner in my opinion. This is obviously the top-of-the-line product. When it connected, it worked as promised/expected. However, I had trouble connecting. On average, it would connect once in 2-3 attempts. But, when connected it worked great and did go to sleep as described by the company.
If you are wondering why 5 stars for a product that did not connect 100% of the time, there is a good reason. The company behind this product is exceptional. They want the customer to have a positive experience in keeping with the description of their product(either on their website or on Amazon). Any company that is willing to stand behind their product is worth more than 5 stars in my book.
The tech support was great and Shubert from the company responded to my emails sometimes within minutes. While it was not easy to unequivocally determine what was wrong with the scanner, they didn't want me to go through 1001 steps and jump through several hoops. They were kind enough to send me a replacement as soon as they found out that I was experiencing connectivity problems.
Obviously, there are hundreds of ELM327 products out there. But, there are also several instances where the cheap copies of OBD scanner killed the ECM unit in the car. This product is one of a few that are recommended by software maker FORSCAN to work reliably(and the only one that is wireless). Ultimately, this is a product you can trust to not destroy your car and also to work with either their own excellent software(IOS, Android, or Windows/PC) and several well-known OBD APPs. To me, the best part is that I can leave it connected to the car and not worry about a battery drain, and every time I start the car it is there automatically connected to my Phone. Whether I want to check certain parameters on the Vehicle or not is up to me. Overall, a great investment if you are keen on knowing what is happening inside the car and want to keep on top of things so you can easily spot a problem as it is developing.
Edit October 7, 2023. The company keeps on improving the features and smoothness of the operation with each firmware update. Great job and keep it going!
Jag använder carscanner appen och allt bara fungerar 👍
