Super tight grip!

Super tight grip!
I purchased a Rugged Ridge "07-10 Dash Multi-Mount with Phone Kit" for my 2009 Jeep JK which comes with a short and pretty weak phone grip. My Pixel 3a would fall out from even a pothole so not great for off-roading. The phone holder on the dash tray has a 1/4" threaded hole on top of the attachment point so you can screw something else right on top and leave the existing phone mount in place. In my case I used the Grifiti arm to replace to upper holder and just screwed it down tight once I got my position where I wanted it so now I have both making it usable for another small device or for a passenger phone.I purchased the "Grifiti Nootle 9 Inch Flexible Metal Black Gooseneck" and added a "RAM Double Socket Arm" and a "RAM Ball Adapter with 1/4"-20 Threaded Hole" to attach the 'TACKFORM Motorcycle Phone Mount - 1" Ball Connection' which has a death grip and it puts my phone within easier view and reach.Specific to the grip, it is incredibly tight and my phone won't budge. I'm considering trying to weaken it's grip a little because it is tough to get my phone in and out quickly and while it comes with a rubber wrap to give extra protection it's doubtful I will ever have a reason to use it.JK Dash Tray https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00SV54LQU/Grifiti arm https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KGHCSN5/RAM dbl socket https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B002L9LW00/RAM Ball https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B006RKF1X8/TACKFORM grip https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DFDKNZF/

Very seldom do I write product reviews - usually because of a lack of time. However, on this occasion I am so impressed that I feel that the product and the company producing it are certainly worthy of the few minutes it will take to write a quick review.

I bought this mount for my 2019 Yamaha Waverunner VXR ("jet ski"), and utilized a 'Ram Mounts' base and articulating arm in conjunction with this impressive little phone mount to mount my phone to the PWC. On the water I use my phone much the same way you would on a motorcycle - for everything from simple things such as listening to music, to charting plots and using navioniocs software to navigate, to more important things like viewing my sonar system so I don't run aground. I mounted the Ram base to the flat plastic trim that makes up the "dash" (if you could call it that) between the handlebars and the gauge cluster. I placed the Ram base's mounting plate on the left side (just to the left of the gauges) so that the phone doesn't get in the way of being able to see the screen of the electronic gauge cluster, but is still tucked far enough behind the left mirror and gauge pod of the deck lid that I don't have to worry about wind or water beating on the phone or mount while under way. Although it may have initially been designed for motorcycle applications, I can tell you that without a fraction of a doubt if it can stand up to the abuses of being mounted to a Jet ski/SeaDoo/etc then it can handle darn-near anything on-road (so long as you keep your bike rubber-side down). The mount itself is made of what feels like some sort of stout yet lightweight metal that was CNC'd out during production, and then anodized to provide not only a good fit & finish but what also seems like some extreme durability. I was impressed to find that the springs that assist in the clamping action when inserting your phone are inside the mount itself, with no visible way of getting the mount apart to take them out. This is important because although I'm not interested in taking my brand new phone mount apart, if it were to feel so cheap that it would seem immediately obvious as to how I could get it apart then in my mind that tells me that I may encounter a potential failure of the product at some point. In fact, so far as I can tell there are no screws or other fastening hardware anywhere that I can see on the exterior of the mount, which again is great because it means no rusting in the salt water I'm in, and no further points of potential failure. Remember, I'm using it in a water application... Dropping it from a moving motorcycle may be bad enough, but if the mount fails in my application, it's going to the bottom of the Chesapeake Bay. And it's taking my $800 Samsung Galaxy with it.

The bottom line here, is this: the Tackform phone mount is rugged, yet sleek and refined looking. Has exceptional clamping force to keep your phone in place with or without the included rubber tether that they include for peace of mind (for applications such as mine). It uses a standard 1" ball, for modular mounting in a variety of applications, enabling you to not only adjust the mount easily but also quickly move it from place to place (i.e. from my Waverunner to my ATV if need be). It's built so well that I have a hard time seeing where it would fail, if at all. And one of the most important factors that speaks to it's build quality (to me anyway), is that it's made in America, by an American company, using American parts, and good old fashioned American Ingenuity. Yes, it may be slightly more expensive than those other cheap handle bar mounts that you can find online, but I promise you that you're getting what you pay for here. Why risk destroying your $300-1,000 phone just because you found some Chinese phone mount that was $15 cheaper? For me, this one was a no-brainer. I'm relatively certain that this mount is going to outlast the phone that's being mounted in it. And I'm extremely confident that the next time I need a device mount for anything, I'll once again be turning to the American made - Tackform.

This is a great way to carry my phone on my bike. It is very solid and secure, leaving me confident that my phone isn't going anywhere while I'm cruising down the highway. It easily adjusts to allow the proper angle to see my screen for the occasion that I need to use navigation. I would definitely recommend this product and would purchase it again if the need were to arise.

No negatives. Nothing to dislike. Waaaay better than the ram X-style mount. If you need a phone mount that is sturdy, well built, secure, and easy to use. Look no further. It doesn’t interfere with any controls, cameras, connections, cables, fingerprint readers, etc. Precision to the finest CNC tolerances. Measured clearance between jaws wide open is 3.25 inches or 82.6 mm. The actual opening is a bit larger, but you will have to get 2 people to use it for anything on the large size nearing or exceeding this dimension. The spring is rather stiff at this max opening dimension. The smallest it will likely hold is around 2.25 inches or 56.5 mm. The jaws are contoured fairly deeply to hold all but the thickest cases and are lined with thin, quality rubber for safety and better grip. The materials are anodized aluminum with stainless steel slider pins. Did I say quality? Even the ball material is better than anything I have seen from ram products. I would trust this mount on any motorcycle. I plan on using it in a truck, however.

I read a lot reviews on this and was skeptical since it was only a claw...it does come with the silicone strapping to ensure you don't have to worry about your phone coming out, but it says in the packaging you shouldn't need it - well, you shouldn't unless you just WANT the additional security. I used this in a box truck that bounces things all over the cab and it did not budge. Regarding placing your phone and removing it - the claw is so strong that you may just want to use both hands to make sure you don't scuff your phone, especially if it is not in a cover case...mine is in a slim fit case, but it fit with no issues (I have a Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown). I'd prefer not scratching my protective case, so I use both hands. It does have rubber inside the claw for additional grip and to not damage your phone, but it is just (as pictured) sharp edged. I would absolutely use this in a bigger truck like a big rig or similar. I know it is marketed for motorcycles, but I cannot attest to that as I do not even have a motorcycle. I bought this along with a RAM socket arm (Ram Mount RAP-B-200-2U Black Mount Double Socket Swivel Arm Sold by: GPSCheap) and that means many options for where you want to have this mounted. Will buy again if needed - don't think it would be because of a problem, but to add additional mounts to a different vehicle or if I wanted to mount for a passenger. I still think the $30 price tag is a bit high, but if it lasts like it seems it will, that is a good purchase even at that price.

Admittedly I’m using this in my truck and not on a motorcycle.

Overall this is a great product and a good alternative to the RAM X mount. I use RAM systems in all my vehicles but wanted to try a different phone mount so went with this.

It’s beautiful simplicity and it looks very well made with tight tolerances. And I like the minimalist appearance for when there’s no phone in it.

My only gripe is that the spring mechanism is actually a little TOO strong. While that’s great for holding onto the device (it doesn’t go anywhere) it makes it kind of annoying for removing and reinserting it single handed. I put way too much force on my dash mount when I pull the spring mechanism against it so I usually use a second hand to stabilize the RAM arm while I pull the spring grip out to remove the phone. If there was a way to adjust the grip strength I’d definitely loosen it a little.

This is the best motorcycle phone mount I’ve used. Use to have the X- Grip style which required two hands to use and was large. This one is sturdy and easy to insert and remove phone with one hand. Has a strong grip.

Cracking lump of solid feeling metal with a standard ball. You'll need to buy a clamp to attach it to another ball mount, but when you do you'll have a sound clamp that is very secure.

Grips a phone in a case well due to small silicone inserts. You'll want to think about where your phone's buttons are - the clamp is wide and it might press them. I solved that by buying a cheap phone case and shaving down the button on it and it works fine.
