I plan on replacing all three belts on my 2004 with 3.4.

My question is simple (I think). I'm not sure if I should replace the pully and tensioner while everything is apart?

    I've noticed a chirping sound upon start-up.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I heard a slight chirp before i did belts on mine, so i went ahead and replaced idler pulley and tensioner... easy to say took me 15 mins, no more chirp. Best to do it while you're already down there.

I agree. I would do it all at once. Pulleys and tensioners are constantly turning so it wouldn't hurt to put new ones in.

Yes it looks like it's one of each but most autopart stores sell timing belt kits with everything in it and looks like some come with replacement water pump too??? So if so and you go that route I'd say if your already in there. But that's just my logic lol you can also ask local autoparts store for what you need. If you want to buy online you'd then have a better idea of what to get. Keep us posted.

Are you talking about the TIMING BELT?? Or are you talking about the 3 accessory belts??

If you are referring to the accessory belts, they are tensioned on EACH belt and by the accessory of which they are driving. The power steering pump and the alternator have adjustments to pivot the units to tighten the belt. The A/C belt has an 'idler' at the very bottom that can be adjusted.
The A/C Idler pulley (at the bottom) often is the first bearings to go bad and could be the result of your chirping.

Thanks for the clarification Jandy. Yes just the 3 accessory belts, my post got slightly off topic when someone started asking questions about timing belts ;) LOL.

I just want to find the source of the "chirp" and take care of that while I'm replacing my Power steering, Alt and A/C belts. I was able to wobble my A/C idler side to side, so I believe the bearing is shot.

If you're looking to change just the bearings - be careful what bearings you get.

I bought a set of sealed bearings from my local bearing house. Pressed them in and all was good....until I discovered the lubrication was coming out and the sealed (plastic) was bulging. I ended up buying the entire idler/bearing setup from Toyota.

I don't know if there's a special 'bearing' that can withstand the higher RPM's - and/or - is specific to automotive usage ?? You might wanna talk to your bearing supplier.
