^^^^ Torspd is right... NST stopped making pullies for the 1GR years ago!

Why don't automakers make pulley's light to begin with?

Cheapest design possibly that lasts the longest, which fits the budget for the vehicle. More expensive vehicle = more money for development and better parts.

I emailed NST and they have 3 lightweight pullies for sale. Crank, alternator, and water pump. For all three the cost is $318. Hope that helps.

I was planning in getting that combination but I heard ALOT of people pay and NEVER get their pulleys OR money back. Please let me know if it works out for you. This was on my mod list years ago.

Also on a side note when considering replacing the crankshaft pulley consider that there are other design criteria than just powering accessory drive belts.
I could be wrong, but I thought I read that the stock crank pulley has a built in harmonic balancer. (this helps dissipate crankshaft vibrations). The NST does not have anything to reduce vibrations. Read this article if you're curious on understanding more about what I mean HERE

Does anyone know if our stock 1gr crankshaft pulley has a harmonic balancer?

What they call the crankshaft pulley sure looks like a harmonic balancer, but it doesn't seem to have any sort of keyway to control orientation so perhaps not. BTW the main advantage of after-market pulleys is not reduced weight. They offer increased power by limiting parasitic loss through the alternator, power steering pump, even the water pump. By making these pulleys larger, the shaft speed is lowered. I've done this on multiple drag cars with my son. There are side-effects. If you slow down something, it does less work. For the P/S pump, steering effort at low RPMs will be increased since the pump has less output. The alternator will produce less current at lower RPMs so the low voltage warning might flicker with lights and air-conditioning on. And of course, slowing down the water pump will reduce cooling at lower RPMs.

Good idea for drag racing, not so good for a daily driver most of the time.

The crank pulley has a rubber insulator between the ribbed portion and the crank portion. it is not necessarily a harmonic balancer, but it does isolate harmonic vibrations. 1gr is internally balanced and does not need a harmonic balancer. however both the OEM and the NST pulleys do have a key way for timing configuration.

if you want a harmonic balancer for the 1gr engine, then you need to purchase the one from ATI.

Personally I despise that rubber insert. At about 70K my older ranger started to have a "chirp". Thought it was an idler or the tensioner (hard to see down in there). Then became convinced it was the water pump which had just started to "weep" a few drops from the weep hole. Still not it. Turns out the belt drive pulley was walking off of the harmonic balancer because the rubber was giving up the ghost. So the belt was no longer running in an aligned path, the crankshaft pulley was sticking out about 1/2" causing the chirp with a misaligned belt. My son and I fixed many of these over the years. Seems like more fords than anything, but we also saw it on a Corvette (An incredible bitch to fix, by the way).
