A little of this and a little of that.
Okay TW, I need some information, please.

I'm going to lunch with some friends that I only see once or twice a year. This time we are meeting at a Thai restaurant. I've never eaten Thai food.

I'd like to know what you like and what's good. I enjoy food with spice/flavor, so I'm not worried about it being too spicy/hot.

I have eaten Japanese, Chinese, & Indian food many times, and enjoyed it.

    Thanks!

i'll be honest. you get curry in three flavors (or colors), yellow, red and green. close your eyes, and unless they are side by side, my rookie thai tongue cant figure it out. they taste too close for me. i've cooked them in Thailand, and i KNOW they are worlds apart, but here in the states, i think they use a paste and a lot is lost on translation.

me? i love me some Pad Thai. sweet, spicy, sour..noodles.
and Larb Gai..a spicy chicken salad.
    and all the curries.

you cant really go wrong. if they have a Green papaya salad, it is fantastic.

oh, if you have a (pea)nut allergy..bring your epi-pen. you are about to go into shock..call 911 now.:D

Don't forget the Brown. Kang Masaman is fucking awesome. Along with Pho, and pretty much anything else on any menu, hard to go wrong.

    Great choice.

    My vote, Panang beef..... delicious.

If you arent into spicey so much a cashew chicken dish is usually pretty good too.

No worries, we can't know them all. Like I said before, hard to go wrong with anything IMO.

At our local Thai, a couple of Indian coworkers get Thai hot. They are wiping sweat off their faces and blowing noses before they are done.

    I'm thinking that it's actually hot. :)

    When in doubt, pad thai.

I have asked for extra thai spicy from my normal thai spot, and still haven't had my head explode. My spice tolerance is high, I guess.

I've only had that pleasure a few times, seems like they dumb it down for the "American palate". Such a shame. I end up having to sauce the ever loving hell out of it to get it decent.

Agree on Chicken Pad Thai. Make sure they bring you a lime and squirt some of that on there too.

    Love me some thai food;

Gang Puck is a great curry too, as is Massaman

Pad Ped is a good stir fry... If you like eggplant

Noodles are hard to go wrong, my favorite is the Phad Kee Mao AKA drunken noodle.

Don't forget soup. Its nice to share a big bowl of Tom Yum or Tom Kha as an appetizer if your in a group of people.

Chicken satay....YUM! Only thing for me I havent found a place that actually has really spicy meals...all the ones Ive been to are "Americanized" spicy levels...which to me is their hottest stuff on a scale of 1-10 is a 2 at best for me...

If you order Pho and you get Pho, then you're in the wrong restaurant.
