I am meeting a guy tommorrow to possibly purchase his LEER Cab high and have some questions:

    1. He has a 2007 DC Long bed in silver, I have a 2012 DC Longbed in silver. Both Gen2s; did the silver color change between then? LEER is 1E7S paint code

    2. I have the factory sliding bed rails with mounted at the top inside of my truck bed. Will those need to come off in order to clamp the shell to my truck?

    3. His truck was in an accident, but he says the shell is in great shape, yet he has no photos. What should I be looking for as I check it out and fit it to my bed to ensure proper fit?

    4. Any issues with leaking (I know all shells leak some) after removing a shell fitted from the factory to another truck bed?

I am open to any and all suggestions. Thanks!

    Darrell

    3" lift? A.R.E cap 285/70/17 moto metal 955 17x9
    1. Don't know

    2. Those should stay as their used to clamp the cap

    3. Find out where and how hard he was hit,
front collision check the front of cap, you get the idea
check the clamp points for stress and look for cracks in the gel-coat

    4. You need to get new foam tape for the side rails, (or should)
you also need to get a special seal for the front of the box or you'll be left with a
    big leak.

Thanks Sparky, will do. If I end up buying it this morning, I'll throw it on and got to the nearest Truck Accessories dealer for the rail foam tape and seal on the front. I apprecciate the help.

Also, How do you like your ARE Cap (from your profile)? If I dont get this one I can get a brand new ARE CX (front slider w/ full dropdown window)with Yakima racks and bed rug out the door here for $1700. Was thinking that route if this doesn't work out.

I'd look for bends or warps along the lines of the shell, places where it doesnt sit flush etc. 95% sure the paint codes are the same

    DJ,
I love my cap, it has those options, the best I think is the fold down front window.
1700 sounds like a really good price, but I'm not sure cause mine was on the truck when I bought it.

    Yoda, Sparky,
Thanks for all of the advice. Dude's 07 took a serious lick straight head on!!! Good thing was, no damage after the front windshield. He left it on the bed so I could see it wasn't tweaked. Great fit, and same color codes!! a little scratch damage from his dogs on the screens, faded third eye tail light lense, but nothing a little Amazon and TLC cant fix. Scored it for a couple hundred dollars less than asking too!!!
I bought the seal tape from my local Campway store ($65!!!!). Well worth it for peace of mind knowing water will stay out for the most part. Going to clean up the contact points and lay the seal tape today. As far as the seal for the front top of the box..... Any recommendations? 3M double sided tape, a spray foam seal, etc?
It has the Yakima Bars across the top front and rear, but the tower mounts are fixed in each of the four corners front/rear, so no sliding of the towers. I can either use it for hauling my kayaks or may the long Yakima box rack, but don't want to put too much weight on top (nothing greater than 200lbs.) Was thinking about having the top line-x so that I can throw stuff up there and not worry about scratches/gouges. You two seen anything like that before? Can't wait to get it on and move to the next project!

    Thanks again for the advice!!!

Sounds like you got a good deal, kudo's to you
As for the front seal, look on Amazon or at a cap store for the right one.
IIRC its gotta be almost an inch thick, ( lay a straight edge across the front and you'll see how much it is)
Try and get one that goes all the way to the corners where it bevels up or it will leak in the corners when you wash the truck.

P.S. stick the seal tape to the cap not the box.
