Show me photos of what you trimmed to fit larger tires and tell me brand and size you trimmed for, and your wheel offset too if you're not running stock wheels. Photos of clearance available would be great too. I'm most interested in fitting larger tires on a 2013 4x4 Sport with a 3" lift on stock 17" rims, but figure other folks would appreciate knowing what they're getting into when they try to stuff a wheel well.
I'm looking more for increased height rather than increased width, I want 275/70/17 without spacers if that will work, Cooper tires have my attention AT3, ATP, ST Maxx. For me new wheels need to wait till next year.
Disclaimer: Did a search, not finding what I'm looking for so if a similar post already exists please point me to it.

Trimming is done by driving the vehicle for several months whilst hearing the sound of rubbing until the sound of rubbing can be heard no more.

this is the technique passed on by my grandfather and his father before.

    Good luck grasshopper.

285/75/16s here. For just normal driving, I just had to trim a tiny bit on the lower, inner part of the fender when the mud flap would mount. Not much..I can hold the pieces from both driver and passenger sides in the open palm of my hand.

With that being said, I had a CMC done and next weekend (hopefully) going to remove my fender liners, flatten and beat in the pinch weld and hope can clear the tires while flexing. To do this, I will be meeting up with a fellow TW member who has a fork lift to perform this very scientific flex test. Good times!!

yeah.... you aint fitting 285's properly unless inner fender is heavily trimmed, pinch weld folded and cab mount chop.

People that say yeah i fit 285/75R16 with little trimming are people whos trucks never flex more than a speed bump.

IMO tires dont "fit" unless you can cycle through full droop to full stuff at all points in the steering without rubbing.

    I run 275-70R17 Cooper AT3.

Only have 1.5 inch lift on 5100's
Removed front mud flaps and did some minor trimming. I get no rub around town and mild flex.
Like someone said earlier. If I were to flex it for real it would probably rip things apart.
What made a big difference for me was getting the right alignment numbers.

I run 0 toe and camber with 2.7 caster.

I'm running 285/75/16 and I did the CMC on my drivers side before I got the tires. I still haven't done the passenger side and have had my tires for nearly 7500mi now. I just don't see any evidence of rubbing the mount so I haven't felt the need to complete it. Major trimming of all the plastics is certainly needed however and my mudflaps had to come out.

And yes, I do offroad and I do "flex more than a speed bump." I'm currently debating doing this since it is needed!

I've about made my mind up on those tires too, but decided to go ahead and wear out the original Dunlops, unless I actually get to make a trip to Big Bend or Moab this year. Love the look of ST Maxx, but they're probably over kill for what I need and really don't want to lose the fuel mileage.

I had the alignment set this morning, asked for 0,0, 3.0 but just noticed I didn't get a print out of the numbers. Got it done at a reputable shop who's done work for me before so hoping I got what I asked for.

Would love to see what you trimmed if you can find time to shoot a few shots.

Pre-alignment, I was having a hard time seeing why 275/70/17 AT3 was going to even come close to rubbing, comparing the stock Dunlop measurements and visually looking to see if there was that much extra around the tire, lock to lock. But that's wasn't flexing either. Maybe I need to head over to the mall

I'm running 285/75/16 km2's with an OME 3"lift. I have no rubbing and no trimming was done.

... go flex and get a tire off the ground at anywhere close to lock and get back to us.

Not everyone wheels man. I've comfortably run 285's on mine since it was about brand new with billies @ 2.5" and a 1.5" progressive AAL. My truck is a DD/ work truck with no issues on highway/ bridge construction sites or at the mall.

I rubbed full lock pulling into parking lots and driveways. Had only minor plastic to trim..but still had to trim.

Wow...not trying to piss anyone off I'm really not. I went out and looked and I did find a spot where I was rubbing very little. No marks on the passenger side.

Not a picture of the front but you get the point, 285s (maybe 1" lift with icons) with minimal fender cutting and no beating of the pinch weld. CMC is needed if you want full lock/bump other wise you can just be easy with the steering. Ill see how much fender I can keep with 35s next week

Barely had to cut anything. Trimmed some plastic off the back and heated up the front to push the plastic in a bit.
Like I said earlier, if I stuff them they will rub.

I agree! it is also a neat way to cut without wasting too much material. Some people over do it.

    OK.
No swaybar, no CMC, full flaps, stock UCA's, anything else you'd like to see? 5 Gallon bucket for reference so you know I didn't cheat.;)
