So a lady just rear ended me. Her car, a Saturn Shitbox hit my truck. I have a shackle recovery tube in the hitch so she hit that. No damage aesthetically to my truck at all, her car was all sorts of messed up. She might have been traveling 3-5 mph. So I didn't bother calling insurance because I found no issues, laid under the truck to make sure frame looked fine and hitch didn't shift. Got back to work and a friend told me same thing happened to his Dad in his GMC Sierra. No damage from what he saw but then body shop said he chassis was bent and totaled the truck. Apparently his hitch caused it to bend...

    I guess my questions are:

    1. Should I get it inspected for actual damage?
    2. Should I just ignore it because I know it is fine and if I do notice an issue, that is my out to get my DCSB 2016...
    3. How the heck did his Sierra bend when it is build with steel used to make nuclear Submarines, big ones!

3-5 mph and hit by a plastic piece of shit? The frames on these trucks are stronger then the garbage GM puts out. I wouldn't worry about it, but to settle your mind, go take it to get the alinement checked, any oddities in the rear axle will indicate a shifted/ bent frame.

I concur with you. I had a tape measure on me and measured the axle to see if it shifted which as far as I can tell did not. Thanks for the suggestion.

You and I both know that the frame rust rotting issue is only from people who live on the salt belt who lack giving basic care and maintenance of the undercoat. If you drive any vehicle around like that and don't maintain and care for it, OF COURSE it'll rust!

Sorry, Joe, that you got rear-ended. I'd be worried about frame damage. There are a lot of threads here on rear-end collisions and frame damage.

I drive mostly in the city, and get rear-ended almost every year.

For my truck, I took the advice of Lord Helmet and got the SpareBumper.

That's pretty sweet! Used as a step as well I would assume.

I've smacked my hitch off boulders going faster than 3mph in reverse. I wouldn't be too worried.

My thoughts exactly. I've backed into trailers harder when not judging how far they were away when hooking up...

And as far as rust, I am not worried. I wash the underside on a weekly basis when salt is on the ground and as soon as I get home from surf fishing.

Brand new 2015 rearended at intersection while driving home from dealer. Does any one have the illustration on how the tow hitch and frame are connected? Trying to find out if there is a rivited extension piece of frame added to the frame when you have a tow package or if it is just bolted directly to the frame.

Any help is appreciated as this is THE NIGHTMARE....

No extension. Bolted directly to frame sandwiched between chassis and bumper brackets.
