(Edit: Setup is complete. Results below)

Ok so I'm looking to replace pretty much my entire exhaust on my 01 prerunner. It's got the two cat system. I'm planning on taking it to a reputable shop and get the whole complete system redone. Kinda still learning what the possibilities are and have a fair understanding of what I need/want. But want some opinions on if I'm going the right direction with this. or if there's a better route. Here are my thoughts and questions..

Purchasing a single universal ( probly magnaflow) cat
Purchasing borla pro xs (but which one?)
Possibly purchase a resonator if it helps quiet it down.

I'd like to have them install the whole system as one unit. Figured it'd be easier and cheaper for the shop to do. Maybe two units. one with the 1st pipe angled down to replace the 1st stock unit with angled cat. then a second unit with the cat, possibly resonator, and muffler turned down before the axle.

I've listened to a ton of sound clips and vids and still am not happy with any of them. If I had to chose, I liked the sound of borla the best. With magnaflow at a close second. Anything else was too loud for my taste or just didn't sound right.

So if I get a borla muffler with the setup I mentioned, will the sound be similar to the catback systems I've listened to or will it be dramatically changed?

Or is there a different quieter muffler you'd suggest? (Yes I know oem is the quietest, but I assume they are way more expensive)

Should I get a resonator added in? Or a resonator tip?

Will there be any cab drone or other issues having it turned down before axle? If so I could probably have an extension added on after the muffler to extend it back further if that'll help. I don't really want to hear it at all in cab. Maybe a little. But I like to hear the engine and intake more than anything. If I can get away with no cab drone or sound period, I'd be a happy camper. I could settle with a little bit louder than stock. But not much. That's why I'm going for borla because if I did have to hear it, then that's the sound I want. Of course I understand I'll be hearing it if I get on it. But I rarely do. Mostly city and highway driving.

Lemme know what you guys think of this custom borla setup. Or what would make it better. And if anything seems out of place let me know. Again I'm still learning about all this but I think I'm on the right track no?

I have a 18" muffler on my 4.0 with full tail pipe no drone you can hear it to about 50 and when you're on it... but on the express way at 70 it is in the back ground just enough to let you know you have an engine... but if you want it quiet get a 22"......

well I went down to RPM exhaust shop today and went over my options and came down to a decision. It's not set in stone yet. But we planned on the 30th this month to get it done.

    Complete system from manifolds back.
    2.25 mild steel piping
    Separate bolt on sections
    New flanges and everything
    Magnaflow cat
    Borla muffler (ordering myself)
Angled up and over frame behind cab
    Exit through the bed side
Flanged out to 3" at end with 3" SS tip
With SS trim ring (round or 'sprocket' design. haven't decided yet. probably sprocket style.)

Quoted $650. Plus $100 for the borla muffler I gotta order.

    Will look something like this:

    0412090001_888d593211d12a74cb26c0dc0106b6ad725d8bc6.jpg

But with a SS trim ring and tip like this:

Whatdya guys think!? I'm loving the idea. I just hope it looks as good on mine. Better because once it's done, there's no going back, any easy way anyways. Ha. I could always weld a plate it later. But this looks badass!!

Just not sure of the stainless look. Idk what else to do. Maybe a stainless trim ring (the sprocket look) with a black tip might look better I think. Hmm..

That's outrageous for exhaust! I know it way look cool but with me I save as many pennies as possible..

I spent a total at about 200 for my muffler. O2 delete and all things needed. And sounds awesome. I'll eventually run it out the side if I don't link the truck.

Well, I went in wanting a basic setup dumped before the axle. And the cheapest. But after hearing their idea (which they did not push on me at all) I started thinking outside the box like they do. And said WTH!! Might as well go all out! And would love to have something unique.

Can't do it myself and I want it done right. And these guys certainly fit the bill! Idk what else to do/ where else to go. These guys were recommended to me by an old friend... And I'm willing to pay the extra for that kind of workmanship. But, I did think $750 total was kinda high. I also forgot to ask about resonators. So add that on top if I decide to get one.

So, I still wanna stick to this setup though. For sure. Do you think I can get it all installed cheaper elsewhere?

I decided to price everything out. And added the resonator.
Total for all parts would be $356.00
    Cat
    Resonator
    Borla Exhaust Tip
    Borla Muffler

So If I provide these parts for them to install, what kinda of pricing should be reasonable to install everything with all new piping/flanges/trim ring/ and labor?

I've done some math too. And from the initial price of $750, minus all the parts I provide, it would be about $300 for the install. That's not too shabby.

I just emailed the guy too. Asked him for a revised quote with me providing all the parts I listed above. Along with all new piping and whatnot. See what he says...

I still think that is outrageous. But then again I'm cheap..

Looks good, I've always wanted to do through bed exhaust like this... Hows it sound? did you go with mandrel bend tubing or pinch bend? got any pix from under it?

Should be all mandrel bent. Better be anyways. Lol. Didn't think to ask if it would be. They specialize in that and custom headers at Redline Performance Manufacturing where I got it done. So I'd imagine it is. I'll see tomorrow when I pick her up. And post some pics and video:) I'm hoping it sounds amazing. Pretty sure it will. Owner said he thought it sounded great..

Here's the link to their site.

if that's what they specialize in it may be, but very few exhaust shops have a mandrel bender. But after looking at there web site they are one of the few! Wish they were closer so I could have some work done.

Holy crap!! Man those guys are freakin awesome. Amazing work and customer service. They went way above my expectations. They even coated the piping for me!! Asked if it'd be ok to drive for a while until I got around to painting it and he said they did that for me. Last time we discussed that he said I should be able to rattle can it myself without taking it down. So that was a surprise when he told me he coated it! Decided to tip him an extra $20. Install cost was $550.

Anyways, she sounds sick. It's actually almost as quiet as the stock was. Even when revving it. But definitely noticeable. Can barely hear it in cab with Windows down. Haven't opened her up yet on the road yet. And the tip and trim ring is just fucking awesome. Totally worth the cost. I'll update later with pics when I get her on the lift at home. Then a vid too. Stay tuned:)

Let me know what you guys think:D
Gonna take a drive-by vid too when i get a chance.
Maybe an in cab vid too (driving) if you want.

(Might have to turn your volume up. Also maybe use headphones or surround on pc with a bit of bass to hear it better. My phone camera didn't pick it up very good..)
