Hey guys, so I bought a used 07 almost two years ago to use as an overland build. Have been researching suspension setups basically since I bought the truck and after going back and forth on mid or long travel about fifty times I've decided to go with All Pro's +2 LT Kit. My budget for suspension, wheels, tires and hopefully skids is about 12.5 (only going LT in the front at this point). Problem is, now that I've finally got my sh*t together, the CAD to USD exchange rate is not exactly in my favour, so that's got me wondering about other options as far as sourcing parts. Anyone know if there are any distributors in Canada for all pro or other LT brands? are there any Canadian manufacturers of LT kits? Thanks in advance.

Don't get the all pro kit. Total Chaos's +2 is superior in every way. Get heimed uppers.

I've read that the total chaos kit requires glass fenders? one of the reasons I was leaning towards all pro is that I don't want glass. I should mention that I'm not using the truck for high speed desert bashing or jumping, I mostly do trails and lower speed crawling, so I'm just looking for the articulation of LT. What's your reason for recommending total chaos over all pro? just heims? Do the bushings in the all pro arms wear out quickly or something?

I have to say that's pretty exciting.. didn't see the TC kit on their page but sent them an email describing what I'm looking for, hopefully they can put together a full package for me. Oh man, i could even pick it all up myself to avoid shipping costs..

They will also install it for you to. Unless you are doing that! I've sent them a few emails about parts and the price is actually really good I think! You could also try bigcountrycustoms.com they are located in abbotsford. I know their website says they can't get much but their Instagram shows they can get total chaos and fox. So I'm assuming if you email them they might be able to get you want you want not sure though.

If one kit needs glass the other will too.
They cant cycle so differently and squeeze maximum travel out of the axles using the same frame mounts and stock spindle

Thanks for the input guys. Yea, as far as glass goes I kinda figured the same thing, so did a bit of research and looks like neither the all pro or total chaos require glass so good to go there!

I will definitely check out bigcountrycustoms as well, Abbotsford is way closer than Kamloops.. was planning on doing the install myself as I'm a ticketed machinist and welder with access to a fully equipped machine shop, no hoist tho.. but if the price is right I have no qualms with letting someone else take care of it.

thegearshop.ca they are in calgary, Nathan who is the owner is very knowledgable and very nice guy! There are a couple shops in Van as well.

It still seems like a lot of the time its still cheaper to go across the border and buy though even with exchange being crappy... I would like to buy in Canada all the time but here is an example...

I called a shop in Vancouver and asked about OME dakar springs... they wanted like $380 EACH!

buying U.S Im going to buy them for $380 for the SET.

    so its still cheaper... :(

    To answer your questions:

    1. Both of the kits will require trimming of the factory fenders or fiberglass fenders, especially if you run 35's. Both kits will require the cab mount chop. You can drive it on the street without fiberglass or trimming; but the minute you start flexing it out the tires will bash the fenders.

    2. The TC kit allows you to run a secondary bypass shock. This may not be a big deal to you now, but you may want it in the future and the TC kit gives you the option. In addition, I believe the TC kit runs a standard 8'' travel coil over; where as All Pro runs a proprietary length C/O - which limits your shock choices. You can run an 8" C/O on an AP kit but you'll be giving up some bump travel and will need to strap it.

    3. The design of the shock bolt on the AP kit is prone to seizing and it's an absolute bitch to get out when it does due to the layout of the tubes. Even with anti-seize, I've had them seize up to the point that I had to take a torch, air hammer, and knock them out the back side (cutting every 1/2'' due to tube interference).

    4. All Pro's powder coating sucks. This is has been my experience with their bumpers and the LT kit.

    5. Get heimed uppers. There is nothing wrong with bushings, but if you wheel the truck like an LT truck should be wheeled you will start bending coil buckets and the frame. Heimed uppers allow you to compensate for this and still get a decent alignment.

    6. That said, you need to gusset the spindle and coil buckets at the minimum BEFORE you install LT and start beating the piss out of the truck. A better practice is to gusset the coil buckets, double sheer the UCA, gusset the spindle, replace the LCA tabs with the TC tabs, and gusset the motor mounts all at the same. And even better practice is an engine cage that braces the coil buckets.

Finally, read this thread and make sure you understand what you're getting into.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/lo...-considering-long-travel-read-here-first.html

Lastly, if you are committed to going balls deep into the build and your primary offroading is crawling, go SAS. I crawl my LT kit, and it is better than stock; but SAS is the superior system for crawling. I'm active duty military so the truck has to be a jack of all trades since terrain changes at every duty station.

thanks for the info. I've read thru that thread quite a bit, as I said I've been researching suspension options for tacoma for over a year now, I realize I may not have many posts on this forum, but that's because I can usually find the info I need by reading and searching. It just gets tedious on threads that are 100+ pages long since a lot of it is just guys bullshitting with each other. I do plan on installing gussets for coil buckets, cam tabs and engine mounts as well. I'm also looking for a jack of all trades truck as I plan to take it all over, I don't just focus on one type of wheeling, which is why I'm going LT over SAS.

I don't know much about either LT kit. But I do have the TC uppers and I love them. Awesome quality.

noted. thanks for your input. at this point my plan is to do a cab mount chop, gusset spindles, double shear UCAs, gusset engine mounts, and install cam tab gussets while I have everything apart and out of the way. As far as prepping the frame for welds do you guys just wire wheel it clean then hit it with a rattle can of rustoleum after welding? I've been thinking of doing a POR15 treatment after everything is welded but that seems like a bit of a PITA.

As far as lift, going to source TC's +2 LT Kit, probably with Fox shocks. I'll need to run straps with those, yea? rear lift will just be a leaf pack with extended shocks for the moment, possible future upgrade to Defined SUA, but gonna wait and see how it feels. Am I missing anything? and, as per your experience, is 12.5K a large enough budget to accomplish all this?

I feel your pain with the $ CNd vs US, and it dropped again today.
There is no way your going to be getting it cheaper at a shop in canada either.

their all compensating for the increase and will bill you more anyways,
Find out who on Tw sells it at the lowest cost and have it all shipped to the usa border crossing, try get tires and everything from one place to get a better deal.

There is honestly only a handful of shops that won't play ball

Yea, I'm trying to get everything from a single supplier.. just contacting the local shops first to get prices then we'll see. My original plan was to dart across the border to pick everything up, a lot of suppliers offer free shipping within US, so just gotta deal with paying the taxes at the border.. but if I can get it all for a decent price over here, all the better.

still haven't heard from Baja North.. you'd think if someone wanted a quote on parts worth $10K plus they'd hop to it..

As for shocks, don't Fox's tend to look really bad when in the rust belt or snow/salt roads? If that is the case maybe look into King or ICON as an alternative.

Good point. I'm curious about this as well actually! Would suck to buy new coil overs and have them rot away. :pout:
