I'm looking to buy my first pistol and Im looking for something that's around $400. I'm planning on getting my concealled carry permit. I've been to a gun show about a month ago And I asked about a shield And the guy said yeah we have one but have you looked at the Taurus. They are really nice. I said no I havent. I didn't buy either. My dad and I went to a gun shop today and they didn't have the shield in stock but the guy said I have a Taurus pt111 g2 in 9mm and it's just as good if not better than the shield for $100 less. It holds 12 rounds vs 8 or 9. What are yalls opinion on this. I had my mind set in the shield but now I'm kinda confused.

No, a Taurus PT111 is not better than a Shield.

Having said that, a Glock 19 beats both of them in spades. By a wide margin. Concealable (but not tiny), easy to shoot, reasonably accurate, durable, etc.

I've been shooting for 30 years, CCW'ing for 20. If I could only have one handgun, it would be a Glock 19. Run you about $499 + shipping from any number of online dealers.

I had a Shield as my EDC and loved it. Sold it to try something new and now carry a Glock 19. While the Glock is awesome the Shield is much easier to carry during the warmer months as it is a lot smaller. No experience with the Taurus though.

Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.
Both will be good reliable guns if taken care of.

The thing you should do is go the range and rent both.

The one you shoot more accurately and is more comfortable to hold should be your determining factor.

I ended up buying the Shield about a week or so ago. I shot my FIL shield .40 and liked the way it felt but we both didn't like how snappy it was so I went with the 9mm.

Good call. I got the Shield in .40 because that's what I trained on. Wish I'd gone 9mm as it is pretty snappy (that's a trait of .40 anyhow though). I've never owned a Taurus though I believe (and could be terribly wrong) they're more of a budget brand.

Out of curiosity - did you get the original production Shield with the safety or the new one without the safety? If you got one with a thumb safety practice with it... over... and over. It's tiny and it needs to be muscle memory each time you draw (don't practice drawing with a loaded firearm).

I have both a Shield and a PT1911 (the Shield is in 9mm, and the PT1911 is in 45 ACP).

The Shield is definitely a much better carry pistol. It's my go-to; I carry it in a DeSantis Intruder holster, and it's incredibly comfortable due to the Shield's slimness.

The Taurus I got as the nightstand gun, and whenever I have time again, hunting sidearm. It's incredibly fun to shoot, but obviously I can't carry it well at all, and 45 is a touch more expensive than 9. Haha.

The Shield is a solid choice for carry. Congrats OP.

I did get the one with the thumb safety on it. Thanks for all the positive feedback and making me feel like I made the right choice for my budget and first pistol.
