Sorry to be a n00b but can someone tell me if these tail lights are OEM? The wind blew over a trash can and cracked my driver side tail light last night. I'm going to order one and it dawned on me that they look a little dark. I can't tell if it's OEM and 'smoked' somehow, after market or what. I bought the truck CPO last year and never really gave it a thought. The part number the dealer gave me is 81561-04160. Thanks.

Yeah those are definitely tinted. They might be oem tails though. The only true way to tell is to pull one off and look at the part #. Even the 3rd brake light looks dark. You may end up having to order a pair if you dont know who or what they have been tinted with

if its second hand it could be just tinted OEM light but when you buy and OEM replacement it def wont be that dark.
you could always just buy a replacement and try to VHT nightshade it to match the other one but it may be hard

Exactly what I was worried about. I don't have an issue buying two, but I have zero clue what product was used to tint them. I can't even see a discernible film on the cracked on. On the passenger side, there is one tiny little spec that looks like a chip of some kind of film. I guess the next stop is a post in the New England thread about who does the tinting around here. Lol.

Thanks for all the input. Much appreciated.

Those do look good. I'm not a fan of non-OEM but for the price, they're basically disposable. Maybe I'll just go that route.

That is not VHT nightshades. That looks to be a professional job.

Your only option is probably to take some thinner and wipe whatever is on there off. Risky choice but, buying 2 OEM tail lights wont be cheap if you do not want aftermarkets

They're not bad. $190/each local and other dealers online have them for $300/pair so I know I can chew my local dealer down. I'd love to know where the original owner got it done. It must be semi-local because it was bought in Mass and traded in here in CT where I bought it.

Yeah I've seen a few good deals on eBay for OEMs. Even from dealers. So much markup, lol. Thanks.

That looks dope. I think the white is much more suitable than MGM for color matching though.

I would replace them with non-tinted covers, and if you want to be different do the color matching with a clear cover. Not sure where O.P. lives; but in most states, including PA where I live, those tinted brake light covers are technically illegal. They can lead to the police pulling you over to harass you, or another driver hitting you in the rear and getting out of it because of you're tinted brake lights (even with brighter bulbs).

Not sure why anyone would want to risk the consequences just to have their tail light covers smoked.

They're not illegal in CT (law is silent). The risks are the same as any mod you make to your car. The argument can always be made that anything that isn't stock affects performance. There are some risks we take, others we don't, I suppose.
