So I purchased a Pioneer head unit along with the metra 70-176 wiring kit for my 2001 Tacoma and now that its installed it cuts out after a few minutes of being on. Its only the display that is cutting out and the radio keeps working, but its black and you are no longer able to change anything on the head unit. Everything seems to be hooked up properly, but I have no idea why its doing after a few minutes of being on. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Is the HU new or used? The reason I ask is there isn't a power wire just for the screen.

Check your connections. If you use butt-connectors make sure you have a good solid connection. Lots of people crimp them too hard and end up cutting them in half causing a bad connection.

Make sure the ground is good as well. Bad grounds cause lots of issues.

If the HU is new, return it and tell them what's happening. If it's used, that may be the reason why someone was selling it. Typically if something is on and working fine for a few minutes, then turns off, something is busted and when that part gets hot it fails.

The HU is new, but I had it sitting around for 2 months before I put it in.

I think Im gonna remove all the connectors and redo it all and see if anything changes.

Im beginning to think its the HU which will really piss me off, but oh well. Thanks for the help and suggestions!

Double check all your connections like you said, if it's still having issues Pioneer will fix it. Should still be under warranty.
