completely worth it. I've been using an OBD2 Bluetooth sender and the torque app for a few years now. I paid $4.00 for the upgraded app. the units were about $20 a pop when I got mine, but it's all the same stuff. does everything a scanguage does, but is more versatile. can't beat it.

I bought a BAFx brand from Amazon. It's totally worth the $25 I paid for it, especially if you don't already have an obd scanner to clear your codes. It functions that way, too.

The BAFX brand works on my 03 and interlocks with torque seamlessly. Downside is that it stick out pretty close to your right leg/foot and that might be a concern when it comes to you snapping it off. Solution would be to get a http://www.amazon.com/Profile-Right...UTF8&qid=1426876806&sr=8-1&keywords=obd+cable

Previous to that I had the isaddle orange BT sensor (very small and similar to one of the ebay versions posted above) and that one sent the truck ABS system into permanent test mode so the light wouldn't come off. Stay away from that one.

So i did a little more research on these, filtered my search on Amazon so that it would show the best reviewed products. It came up with the same one you linked. I pulled the trigger on it. Now just the waiting game. And the learning game. Aside from obvious things like mpg, mph, temp, how do i interpret the numbers. say for air/fuel mixture and others, so i know im running good or not.

And as far as the horse power meter goes, has anyone found it to be accurate? Btw this will be on a 04, prerunner, dc, v6, trd. I also downloaded "torque lite" for now and have been playing with it to figure it out. Thanks for all the input

power meter is really just a "load" meter of sorts. not sure what it actually measures, but it's just a 0%-100% value. it's not an actual HP readout. if it were, no one would pay for dyno runs.

In most cases these little things have an ELM chipset in them, and that's the magic. The ebay linked one is version 2.1, which is ELM's latest:
    http://elmelectronics.com/obdic.html

The Amazon linked one doesn't mention ELM, let alone which version. Were it me, I'd buy the cheapest one that I could find that was ELM v2.1.

I wish I'd known that when I bought mine. Now I have to go look and see what chipset I bought.

    Edit: I went and looked. I ordered a v1.5 one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D6DOFTK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That's kinda what I was expecting. I didn't buy it for that reason anyways. But again how do i decipher the other numbers, say on fuel trim, and others that aren't so obvious..

the way torque works, is that you have X number of things that It can display. you can then put between 1 and 8 different "gauges" on each screen (I think you have 5 screens available). depending on what you are doing, we likely don't even need things like fuel trims on your screens. I only had them when I was adjusting the curve on my mass airflow calibrator for a new intake. since doing that, I've taken those gauges off, and replaced them with more relevant ones.

Yeah, i figured after the shinyness wears away, and ive had it for a minute id probably just start monitoring the "normal" things too. Im gonna read up on how to read the more complicated things, such as fuel trim and such. I was just hoping to get more tacoma specific info, from a real live member. Hell maybe someone will chime in eventually. Is this thing capable of "tuning", like say a "power commander"? or is it just a nifty new way of having guages? I mean obviously i should be able to test different things like cai, headers, air filters, spark plugs, wires, alternator and such in theory right? Thanks for putting up with all the stupid questions...

EDIT: just found this thread, in the process of reading it!

I have one. Pretty good little thing to have. I just got tired of messing with it and bought a standalone one from Harbor Freight for $80

End of the thread i linked? Im almost there, on page 21. How would you control auto start with this thing. If its bluetooth you gotta be relatively close to use it.. My auto start is good for 1500 ft. Or am i missing something..
