$900 for fuel pump?

    sounds rediculous for just the part. Have you looked on the interweb for the pump, I dunno what shipping would cost to get it to Alaska but I'd guess one could be had for <$900. Rockauto.com usually has good prices

    Actually they will charge you $905. $900 for the fuel pump, $5 for the K-Y jelly so it won't be so painful to insert it. :)

    That is well north of "insane". In looking at Advanced Auto parts, you can buy the "rebuild kit" for about $160. This includes a new motor, and the last time I did one of these a new "sock" filter and whatever tubing/clamps are needed.

    the complete pump "canister" is way on up there however. Something in the $500 range which is really expensive. I've replaced lots of GM and Ford pumps with just the motor trick. I have replaced some where the sending unit and everything was needed. I've not seen one go for over $350 or so that I can remember. Must have gold-plated check-valves on the taco pumps or something.
